Emberville Demo Prologue Walkthrough and Save Transfer Checklist: What Carries Into Early Access

The Emberville demo is the game's Prologue: a roughly 90-minute opening chapter that teaches combat, classes, gathering and crafting before you reach the ruined town. This guide walks through what the demo contains, exactly which saves carry into the October 27 Early Access launch, and the checklist to finish before Next Fest ends on October 26.

Your demo save is an Early Access save. The Emberville demo is not a vertical slice or a separate teaser — it is the game's Prologue, the actual opening chapter, and Cygnus Cross confirms that progress from the public Next Fest demo carries straight into the Early Access launch on October 27,

2026. Treat the roughly 90 minutes it takes to finish as the first 90 minutes of the full game, and use this checklist to make sure nothing about the transfer trips you up.

Quick answer

  • The demo is the Prologue: awakening in the Vitromotus, first weapons and combos, class and crafting introductions, and the journey to the ruined town.

  • Public Next Fest demo saves carry into Early Access. Creator and press preview saves do not.

  • Average completion time for the Prologue is about 90 minutes, per the developers.

  • The demo is free until Next Fest ends on October 26, 2026; whether it stays up afterwards is the developer's choice, so do not rely on it.

  • Finish the Prologue before the festival ends and leave the save in place — there is nothing else you need to do for the transfer.

The Prologue opens in darkness inside the Vitromotus prison

1. What the demo actually contains

The Prologue is a guided opening, not an open sandbox. You wake with no memories inside the Vitromotus, arm yourself, and work through the game's core systems in sequence: action combat with weapon combos, the class and skill systems, gathering and world interaction, and the first crafting steps. You are not alone in there: a fellow prisoner named Adeos walks you through the ropes and hands you your first weapon, a Rusty Short Sword, and preview players fought a skeleton mini-boss before the chapter closed. Hands-on players consistently describe the first hour as a systems tour — combat, classes, skill trees, crafting and exploration are all introduced before you reach the surface.

The chapter ends with your arrival at what's left of Emberville, the ruined town whose rescue-and-rebuild loop drives the full game. The developers call the Prologue "the quality bar we're working toward across the entire game," and the Early Access version picks up from there with the first major biome and substantially more content, progression and gameplay.

2. Save transfer: exactly what carries over

Early Access (from October 27)

It is the full game going forward

There is no export step and nothing to upload: the demo and the Early Access version share the same save path, and the full game simply continues from where the Prologue left you. Steam Cloud is supported, so a save made on one PC follows your account. Two cautions: if you played a preview build through a creator key, plan to start fresh; and if you share a PC, make sure you finish the Prologue on the Steam account that will own the game.

3. The pre-launch checklist: finish these before October 26

  • 1. Download and finish the Prologue. At about 90 minutes it fits in one sitting, and an unfinished save still carries — but the Early Access content assumes the Prologue's tutorials.

  • 2. Experiment while it is free. Try different weapons and spend your deaths learning: kymia revives you, and preview players reported no equipment or item penalties for dying in the Prologue.

  • 3. Gather as you go. Materials and gathering experience are part of your transferred progress, and they feed the crafting systems that open in town.

  • 4. Leave the save alone after finishing. Do not uninstall-and-clean or wipe local files; let Steam Cloud keep a synced copy.

  • 5. Decide on the purchase with the launch discount in mind: the announced price is $29.99 with a 10% launch discount to $26.99, and there are no microtransactions. Wishlisting is enough if you want to wait for launch-day impressions.

4. What changes when Early Access opens on October 27

The Prologue remains the game's opening chapter, so nothing you learned goes to waste. What the paid version adds on day one is the first major biome beyond the demo's scope: more story and quests, the class system in full, town rebuilding, crafting and building, and the full voice-acted cast. The developers estimate the Early Access build at 7 to 10 hours for rushers, 15 to 20 hours for average players and 20 to 30-plus hours for players who dig into crafting, exploring and building.

One more date to hold: the first Early Access update is planned within a month of launch and adds the final boss of the first biome, improved controller support and additional languages. If you finish the Early Access content quickly, that update is your next content drop.

Can I still play the demo after Next Fest ends?

Not guaranteed. Next Fest demos stay available only if the developer chooses to keep them up after October

26. The safe assumption is that the free window closes with the festival; the Early Access version launches the next day either way.

Does the demo have an ending, or does it just stop?

It has a real stopping point: the Prologue is a complete opening chapter that ends when you reach the town of Emberville, averaging about 90 minutes. Your character, progress and materials all sit in a save the full game continues.

I played the preview build on a creator key. Does my progress count?

No. Cygnus Cross states that saves from the creator and press preview do not carry into Early Access. Only the public Next Fest demo's saves transfer.

Will my demo character's appearance carry over?

Your save as a whole carries over, including the character you created in the demo's character creator. There is no separate appearance export to manage.
