Final Fantasy Resonance Boss Weaknesses and Best Visions Guide

Every story boss in Final Fantasy Resonance has one or two elemental weaknesses. Hit the weakness to drain the stagger gauge fast, stagger the boss, and win the bonus phase. This guide lists every main-story boss weakness from Belmodar (Fire, Dark) to the final boss Chaotic Darkness (Light), with the best Vision for each fight, plus the optional Sephiroth fight and the Chamber of Arms trials.

Quick answer

Hit the weakness to drain the stagger gauge fast, stagger the boss, and win the bonus phase.

Guide details

  • Rule one: match the Vision to the weakness, not to the name. A Vision carries several elements, so use only the skills that hit the weakness.

  • Cast Libra on anything new. Weaknesses stay hidden until revealed, and some bosses change weakness mid-fight.

  • Keep a healer in the party. Leah on Fina covers almost every story fight.

  • If a fight goes badly, fix the elements before you grind levels. A party that hits the weakness staggers far faster.

How boss fights work

Every boss has a stagger gauge under its HP bar. A weakness hit drains it far faster than a neutral hit. A staggered boss loses its turn and takes more damage. The character who causes the stagger gets a bonus phase with an extra action, and staggering every enemy together triggers a Sweeping Stagger for the whole party. Weaknesses stay hidden until you hit the right element or cast Libra, which reveals them. Higher-level enemies are harder to stagger, so match the boss level before you blame your damage.

Final Fantasy Resonance launched on October 22, 2026, from Square Enix and Lancarse, at $49.99 for the Standard Edition. The story runs 8 chapters. Visions are the legacy heroes you equip on party members: each Vision brings a role, a set of elemental skills, and a Resonance finisher. The Vision picks in this guide only use Visions unlocked by that chapter, so every pick is one you can actually equip at that point.

Chapter 1: Belmodar to Siren

Belmodar is weak to Fire and Dark and resists Lightning. Rain already has Fire, and Lasswell builds stagger fast, so open with Fire and keep hitting it. Hell's Rider is weak to Ice and Light: clear its three Dark Skeleton escorts first, then focus the Rider with Dawn Frost and Banish. The Hunger fights twice with different weaknesses: Ice in the first fight, Light in the rematch, so save resources for the second round. Siren is weak to Lightning and resists Water. Bring Thunder through Tronn, protect the party against Charm for her Allure, and after the win she becomes your first Esper. The early Umbra encounter in this chapter is a scripted story defeat: do not spend rare recovery items trying to force a win.

Chapters 2 and 3: the elemental shrines

Chapter 2 opens with Liquid Thunder, weak to Earth and immune to Lightning: use Warrior of Light for Earth skills and leave Lightning at home. Mom Bomb is weak to Water and resists Fire, while Epimetheus and Adrastea are both weak to Lightning, and Adrastea also takes Water. Aether is weak to Ice and immune to Wind. In Chapter 3, Wave Lopros is weak to Ice, and Water Dragon, Leviathan, and Alluvion are all weak to Lightning. Leviathan resists Water and Alluvion is immune to it, so bring Lightning through Firion, Tronn, or Warrior of Light, not Water.

Chapter 4: the Weapons Factory and Zoldaad

Ignis is weak to Water in all three fights at the Weapons Factory. The Fire question is where the sources split: the wiki says he absorbs Fire in the first two fights, which cannot be won, and only resists it in the third, real fight. Keep Fire off the party either way. The Emperor of Zoldaad and Test Subject No. 9 are also weak to Water, so Cloud or Shantotto covers most of the chapter. Lazarov is weak to Earth, and the Hunger rematch is weak to Fire and Light. No. 999 is weak to Wind.

Chapter 5: the airship opens the map

You get the Enterprise airship at the start of Chapter 5, after finishing Chapter 4, and it opens the optional content in this guide. Slagworm is weak to Wind and immune to Earth, and it can swallow a party member, so bring Wind on more than one character. In the Nameless Ruins, the Iron Giant is weak to Lightning and Liquid Flame is weak to Ice and Water and absorbs Fire; both counter physical hits, so use magic only. The first Tellus meeting ends by itself after a few turns: survive it and save your strength for the real fight at the Tower of Mysidia, where he is weak to Wind again. Byblos is weak to Fire and Dark. Archwitch Fina, called Dark Fina on the wiki, is weak to Light and Water and resists Dark; she uses Doom and Death, so bring a Ribbon and a reviver.

Chapter 6: the Sanctissimus Shrine

Lux is weak to Dark and resists Light, and she can dispel your buffs, so do not waste turns buffing. Elfdrit is weak to Fire and Light and resists Dark, and the fight throws status ailments at the party. Archaeoaevis changes weakness after Barrier Shift: cast Libra after every shift and do not assume the opening weakness still holds. Dad Bomb is weak to Fire and explodes at low HP, so finish it fast or be ready to survive the blast. The two Arch Gargoyles must be killed at the same time, or the survivor revives the other. Test Rider is weak to Earth and Light, Yakhanati to Wind and Dark, the Dragon to Lightning, and Gelidus to Fire. Gelidus is the longest fight of the shrine run, so save a big stagger window for the end.

Chapters 7 and 8: rematches and the final boss

Chapter 7 is four rematches with the same weaknesses as the first meetings: Aether is weak to Ice, Ignis to Water, Alluvion to Lightning, and Tellus to Wind. Umbra returns at level 50, weak to Light and resistant to Dark. Chapter 8 runs through the Crystal Tower. Dante is weak to Earth and Light: kill his two Specters first. Behemoth is weak to Wind and Light and resists Earth. Dark Bahamut is weak to Light. Sol is weak to Dark. The Keen of Fury is weak to Earth: kill it before the body drops to half HP, or Chaotic Darkness eats it to heal and grow stronger. For Chaotic Darkness itself, kill the Left Hand first with Wind, because it can revive the Right Hand, then the Right Hand with Earth, then hit the body with Light. The body is immune to Dark. The second form brings seven sins, each with its own weakness, and the sources disagree on whether the body weakness changes in that form, so cast Libra when it transforms.

Optional challenge: Sephiroth

Sephiroth waits in Whirlpool Hollow, in the sea by the large bridge in Grandshelt. You need the airship, which you get at the end of Chapter 4, so the fight opens at the start of Chapter

5. Come at level 45 or higher. The fight has three phases. Phase one has no weakness: go physical, but switch to magic while he is in Masamune in Waiting, which counters physical attacks. Phase two rotates four Infusions, each weak to its counter-element: Fire to Water, Ice to Fire, Lightning to Earth, and Wind to Ice. The last phase is weak to Light and absorbs Dark, so bench Dark damage for the finish. Winning unlocks the Fallen Hero Sephiroth Vision. One note: the wiki says you can walk up to him early, while every other guide checked says the airship is required. The airship route is the one to plan around.

Optional challenge: the Chamber of Arms

The Chamber of Arms sits on a small island northwest of Mobliz Shipyard in Dirnado, and opens in Chapter 5 once you have the airship. There are 12 Legendary Arms: eight weapons, three armor pieces, and one accessory. Each starts as a weaker Ancient piece found around the world. Bring the Ancient piece to its altar in the Chamber to face its guardian in a two-phase trial at level

50. Win, and the piece becomes its Legendary form. After the relevant character reaches level 70, the same guardian returns at level 75 for an ultimate trial that awards the plus form. Every guardian changes weakness between forms, so bring two elements and read each form as it comes. One example: Dabih, guardian of the Artemis Bow, is weak to Light and Ice in phase one, and in phase two all three targets are weak to Light.

Esper trials in brief

Espers are recruited by beating them, and most are stagger checks with one gimmick each. Siren is weak to Lightning and becomes your first Esper in Chapter

1. Ramuh is weak to Earth and immune to Lightning. Leviathan is weak to Lightning and resists Water. Titan is weak to Wind and immune to Earth. Ifrit is weak to Water and immune to Fire. Shiva is weak to Fire, resists Water, and absorbs Ice. Odin's Shadow is weak to Lightning. Bahamut has no weakness and stores the elemental attacks you throw at him, so build for raw damage and stagger instead.

FAQ

  • Which Vision should I bring if I only remember one rule? Match the element to the boss weakness in the table. If no Vision in your party covers it, use an Esper for three turns of that element.

  • Why did my weakness stop working mid-fight? Some bosses change weakness between forms or after a shift: Archaeoaevis after Barrier Shift, Ignis between fights, Sephiroth between phases, and the Chamber of Arms guardians between forms. Cast Libra again when the fight changes.

  • What level should I be for Sephiroth? Level 45 or higher. If you are under 45, finish more of Chapter 5 first.

  • Can I fight Sephiroth and the Chamber of Arms guardians later? Yes. Neither is missable, and the Chamber guardians return at level 75 for the plus-form upgrades.

  • What is the hardest story boss? Chaotic Darkness at the top of the Crystal Tower in Chapter 8: two Hands, two forms, and seven sins in the second form. Bring Light, Wind, and Earth, and kill the Left Hand first.

Sources and where they disagree

Weaknesses in this guide are cross-checked across three sources: the Geeky Inc boss guide (updated October 30, 2026, cross-checked against ffresonance.wiki, Game8, and MeowDB), the ffresonance.wiki boss weaknesses page, and the Game8 walkthrough and boss list. All three agree on every Chapter 1 to 6 weakness. Chapters 7 and 8 rest on the wiki and MeowDB only, and Game8 does not list resistances, so resistance notes for those chapters come from the wiki. Where the sources disagree, the guide says so in the text: Belmodar's Dark weakness is named by the wiki and Geeky Inc while Game8 prose names Fire only; Ignis absorbs Fire in the first two fights and only resists it in the third, per the wiki, while Geeky Inc records the two readings as unresolved; the second form of Chaotic Darkness is listed as Light with a form change by the wiki, while Geeky Inc warns the sources disagree and advises Libra; Game8's Sol tips mention Light as well as Dark, while the wiki and Geeky Inc list Dark only; and the wiki says Sephiroth can be reached early, while every other guide checked requires the airship. No HP, damage, or drop-rate numbers are used in this guide.

If a boss changes weakness mid-fight, cast Libra again before you rebuild the party around the old element. The table is the starting point, not the whole fight.
