Battlefield 6's free trial on Steam will now run through Tuesday, October 20, one day longer than planned, after access problems hit some players on its first day. The 2x XP weekend has been extended to the same deadline, which lands at 5 p.m. UTC, 10 a.m. PDT and 6 p.m. CEST.

What happened
The trial opened on October 15 as a free weekend covering every available map and mode in the game. On the first day, some players ran into access problems, including cases where the multiplayer files appeared to be missing from the trial install. EA has since fixed the underlying issue, and the extension to October 20 is the compensation: everyone gets the full final weekend plus an extra day.
If the multiplayer tiles are still missing in your install, the official advice is simple. Restart Steam, open the Battlefield 6 store page and choose Play Game so the required multiplayer files download. You can also check the files directly in your library by right-clicking the game, opening the DLC tab and confirming the multiplayer components are selected.
What the trial actually includes
This is a full-game trial rather than a cut-down demo. Every available map and mode is open, spanning large-scale modes such as Conquest and Breakthrough and the tighter infantry focus of Domination. Progress counts: Career Rank and weapon XP earned during the trial carry the double XP rate through the extended deadline, and Battle Pass tiers can be unlocked along the way.
The timing sits inside a busy stretch for the game. The Season 5 update, version 2.1.1.0, recently added four weapons — the Mk 24 assault rifle, the compact RSPR, the belt-fed Z84M light machine gun and the ELR-40 sniper rifle — alongside a Season 5 Battle Pass with more than 100 reward tiers and a Battlefield Pro tier built around the season's Las Vegas theme. Trial players are stepping into that current version, not a frozen launch build.
Season context matters for trial players in one more way. Ranked play has just been refreshed in the same update, with redesigned Ranked badges, so the competitive ladder you meet this week is the current one.
What happens when the trial ends
Two things follow the deadline on October
20. The discounts end the same day: Steam is offering up to 60% off the Standard Edition during the trial period, and the recently released GOTY Edition carries a 40% launch discount until October 20 as well. Then the calendar turns Halloween-shaped. The Battlefield 6 x Dead Space: Convergence event runs from October 20 to November 10, bringing a Marker Incursion mode set around Area 51, a Pulse Rifle battle pickup and a set of Dead Space-themed rewards.
Why it matters
Free weekends are routine for big shooters. Quietly extending one is less routine, and it tells you two things. First, the first-day problem was real enough that EA preferred giving away an extra day over arguing about it. Second, the trial is doing conversion work: it lands in the same window as a new season, a new premium edition and steep discounts, which is a deliberate funnel from free hours to a discounted purchase before the Dead Space event pulls attention elsewhere.
Our take
If you skipped Battlefield 6 at launch on October 10 last year, this is the cheapest useful opinion you can form about it: the full multiplayer suite, at double XP, with a discount waiting at the exit. Use the extra day rather than the crowded weekend peak if your connection allows it, and check the DLC tab fix before assuming the trial is broken. The one caution is the calendar. Everything — trial, 2x XP and both discounts — ends on October 20, so a decision made on October 21 costs noticeably more than the same decision made a day earlier.
