Board rules, corner-control strategies and tips for archery, rock-paper-scissors, planting and combat tasks.
Board rules
Form a party and speak to Ye Fashan in Baoxiang Kingdom to receive the Good and Evil Board. You play white and the system plays black, using Reversi rules. When you place a piece, any uninterrupted line of opposing pieces sandwiched between it and one of your existing pieces is flipped to your color. This works horizontally, vertically and diagonally. When the board is full, the side with more pieces wins. Understanding these rules is the foundation of a good strategy.
Board strategy
The four corners are crucial: once occupied, they cannot be flipped. Try to secure them early. In the opening round, inspect the corners and choose one that is not being contested by other players.
After securing a corner, extend along adjacent edges to limit the opponent's mobility and increase your piece count. For example, from the upper-left corner, consider the neighboring top or left edge on your next move. Avoid casual moves into the center, where pieces are easier to flip, unless the move secures an important position or flips a large number of opposing pieces.
Track the black pieces and anticipate the next move. Break developing connections and occupy important squares before the opponent can use them. For instance, place a white piece at a key point to disrupt a developing line of black pieces.
A single move may flip pieces in several directions. Inspect the board for empty squares between multiple neighboring lines of black pieces; a white piece placed there may flip several lines at once.
Event tips
After each battle, reopen the board and quickly right-click it twice to skip the computer's move animation. This saves time, especially on new or congested servers.
Each board square maps to a fixed area and coordinate. Favor squares for Changshou Village, Zhuzi Kingdom and Aolai Kingdom, where Guide Flags let you reach the task location quickly.
Discuss placements and take teammates' suggestions into account. The leader can use party chat before each move to agree on the next square.
Task strategies
Quick navigation4 entries
Archery
Use this winning sequence: throw 1 arrow on your first move. After that, respond to the NPC by making your two throws total
3. If the NPC throws 1, throw 2; if it throws 2, throw
1. For example, open with 1 arrow. If the NPC then throws 1, throw 2 on your next move.
Rock-paper-scissors
This task depends heavily on luck. If you would rather avoid uncertain delays, choose combat directly. You can still try rock-paper-scissors if you want to take the chance.
Planting flowers
After receiving the seeds, try planting once where you stand. If it fails, choose combat. Repeated planting attempts can take longer than simply finishing the fight.
Combat
Less well-equipped parties can focus the boss first; the adds flee when it dies. Another approach is to defeat only the Evil enemies: when only Good enemies remain, the whole enemy team flees. Having no adds does not count as having Good enemies left. Prioritize Heavenly Soldiers so their Good and Evil skill does not cause an unexpected defeat. Heavenly Generals resist both physical and magical attacks, so fixed-damage characters are recommended for them. The boss also has both types of resistance and is best handled with fixed damage.
Summary
Compassion for Restless Spirits combines board strategy, task selection and teamwork. Secure strong positions, use the time-saving techniques and choose tasks that suit your party to complete the event efficiently and earn its rewards.
