Dual-wielding in Cyberpunk 2077 is real, and it is narrower than the fantasy: one Cool perk, Double Trouble, lets V fire two Power pistols or Power revolvers at once, and nothing else qualifies. If you build for it, build around its trade, not around the idea of twice the damage. Update 2.5, the free Edgerunners 2 Update released October 22, 2026, added the playstyle to the base game, so you do not need Phantom Liberty to try it.
Quick answer
Unlock Double Trouble in the Cool tree, then equip two Power pistols or Power revolvers. That is the whole gate.
Smart and Tech handguns, SMGs, shotguns, rifles, and melee weapons cannot be dual-wielded, and the Clampdown revolver Coronation is Tech, so it cannot either.
Rank 1 trades damage for volume: each gun deals less per shot, so dual-wielding is about pressure and uptime, not a free damage doubling.
Rank 2 adds Heywood Hurricane, a one-second automatic burst from both guns that replaces your Quick Melee attack.
All perk numbers in this guide come from launch-day transcriptions of in-game text, not from the patch notes, which do not print them. Hotfix 2.500.200 (October 27,
2026) fixed only an Argentina save-data issue and did not change these perks.

1. Unlock Double Trouble first, then pick your pair
Dual-wielding is not a toggle in the settings and not a weapon mod. It is a perk. Open the Cool tree, spend into Double Trouble, and only then does the second handgun slot come alive. The patch notes confirm the perk, its Cool-tree home, its four supporting perks, and the Power-only weapon limit; they do not print any perk numbers. Every number below, including the Cool 9 requirement, comes from launch-day transcriptions of the in-game perk text, so treat it as in-game-text wording, not as a patch-note quotation. If a later patch retunes the numbers, the shape of the build below still holds, but the figures will not.
Raise Cool toward the Double Trouble node (in-game-text transcription: Cool 9), then spend one Perk Point on Double Trouble rank 1.
Equip a Power pistol or Power revolver in each handgun slot. If a gun is Smart or Tech, the game will not let it dual-wield, however good it is.
Spend a second Perk Point for rank 2 when you want Heywood Hurricane. It replaces Quick Melee, so decide whether you can live without that button.
Then take the four supporting perks below. The full cluster costs six Perk Points: two in Double Trouble, one in each support perk.
2. What Double Trouble actually does, rank by rank
Rank 1 is the honest version of the fantasy. You fire two guns at once, and each one hits softer than it would alone. The in-game-text transcription puts the penalty at 37.5% less damage per weapon, with aiming cutting recoil and bullet spread by 15%. That math is why the common mistake is to expect double damage: two guns at 62.5% each, both hitting, is more total output than one gun, but it is not twice one gun, and it costs twice the ammunition. Rank 2 does not remove that trade. It adds a burst tool on top of it.

| Perk | Effect (in-game-text transcription) |
|---|---|
Double Trouble rank 1 | Unlocks dual-wielding; each weapon deals 37.5% less damage; aiming reduces recoil and bullet spread by 15% |
Double Trouble rank 2: Heywood Hurricane | Both weapons fire automatically for 1 second with 50% more bullet spread; ammo spent on successful shots is refilled; replaces Quick Melee; controller R3, keyboard Q |
3. The four supporting perks, and the order to take them
Double Trouble alone is a stance. The four supporting perks are what make it a build, because they solve the three problems dual-wielding creates: you burn stamina, you burn ammunition, and your burst window is short. Take Triple Tequila first if you want the Hurricane to matter, because the Hurricane consumes its stacks for damage. Take Two Right Hands second if you hip-fire more than you aim. Keep Em Comin and Splash of Love close behind, and note one honest caveat below about a disputed figure.

| Perk | What it does (in-game-text transcription) |
|---|---|
Triple Tequila | After neutralizing an enemy while dual-wielding, +10% Mitigation Chance for 15 seconds, stacking up to 3 times; Heywood Hurricane consumes stacks for +15% damage per stack; stacks cannot be earned during a Hurricane |
Two Right Hands | Hip-firing while dual-wielding costs 25% less Stamina; aiming with dual-wield reduces recoil and bullet spread by 20% |
Keep Em Comin | Restores Stamina after neutralizing an enemy while dual-wielding, plus extra Stamina per active Triple Tequila stack; the exact base figure differs between launch-day transcriptions, so this guide does not quote one |
Splash of Love | Heywood Hurricane fires 50% faster; at maximum Triple Tequila stacks, Hurricane duration extends by 1 second |
4. How to actually fight with two guns
Play dual-wielding as a close-to-mid-range pressure build, not as a sniper build. Open at a range where both guns can hit, aim for the recoil and spread bonus when you need accuracy, and hip-fire when the target is close and stamina matters. Build Triple Tequila stacks on weaker enemies first, then spend them: a Hurricane at three stacks, with Splash of Love, is the build payoff, firing faster and lasting longer than a cold Hurricane. If the Hurricane is on cooldown in your head, you are playing it wrong: the loop is kill, stack, burst, reposition, not burst on sight.
Enter at mid range, both guns on the same target, and do not split fire between two enemies unless one is about to kill you.
Aim when the target is far or small; hip-fire when it is close and you need to keep moving.
Spend Triple Tequila stacks with a Hurricane only after two or three kills, not on the first enemy you see.
Reposition after every Hurricane. The burst leaves you standing in the open with spread up and attention drawn.
5. What does not work, and what to pair it with
Three pairings fail outright. Smart pistols do not qualify, even though smart weapons aim themselves, because the perk is Power-only. Tech pistols do not qualify either, which is why Coronation, the Iconic Tech revolver from Clampdown, is a superb single gun and a useless dual-wield gun. And mixing a pistol with a revolver is allowed, since both are Power handguns, but mixing ranges is not: a long-range revolver paired with a short-range pistol wastes one gun at every distance. For a first pair, use two Power pistols you already like single-wielded, and only chase a matched pair of revolvers once you know you like the stance.
FAQ
Do I need Phantom Liberty to dual-wield?
No. Double Trouble arrived in free Update 2.5 for base-game owners, on PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Switch 2 and the Mac App Store build following days later.
Can I dual-wield a pistol and a revolver together?
Yes, as long as both are Power category. A Power pistol plus a Power revolver qualifies; a Power gun plus a Smart or Tech gun does not.
Why does Coronation not work for dual-wielding?
Coronation is a Tech revolver, and Double Trouble is Power-only. It is still an Iconic weapon worth keeping, just as a single-wield gun, not as half of a pair.
Did hotfix 2.500.200 change dual-wielding numbers?
No, on the available evidence. The October 27, 2026 hotfix fixed only an Argentina save-data access issue. No perk retune was announced with it, but perk numbers remain in-game-text transcriptions, so recheck them after any future patch that mentions perks.
