Quick answer
The free demo for The Withered World is the best place to start: it covers the first chapter through the Witherwood event, teaches scouting and synthesis, and lets you carry up to 8 monsters into the full game.

Before you start
Download the free demo on Steam. It has been live since September 2026.
Play on the platform and account you plan to use for the full game, or your demo monsters cannot transfer.
Expect the demo to end at the Witherwood event. There is no way to play past it before release.
The demo is single-player. This guide covers the single-player game only.
Your first hour in the demo
Start the demo and follow Chapter 1 until you can scout your first monsters.
Scout G-rank and F-rank monsters. Those are the only ranks available in the demo, so build your early party from them.
Use Quick Scouting to fill your party faster. It is one of the three systems the demo is built to show off.
Open Synthesis and try your first fusion with two of your scouted monsters.
Try a Joint Battle, where your monsters fight together.
Play through to the end of the Witherwood event. That is where the demo ends.
Before you finish, pick the up to 8 monsters you want to keep. They transfer at level 1 with default talents.
Scouting: Quick Scouting in the demo
Scouting is how you recruit monsters. In the demo the pool is limited to G-rank and F-rank monsters, so every party you build starts there. Quick Scouting is the faster version of the same idea: it shortens the recruiting process so you spend less time on each attempt and more time building your party. Use it whenever you want to fill gaps in your team.
Synthesis: your first fusions
Synthesis fuses two monsters into a new one. It is available in the demo, and it is the fastest way to grow past what scouting alone gives you. Because the demo only lets you scout G-rank and F-rank monsters, every fusion you try starts from that pool. Our separate synthesis guide explains how it works in the demo and what transfers to the full game.
Transferring your demo monsters
Up to 8 monsters transfer.
Same platform and same account, or no transfer.
Transferred monsters return to level 1 with default talents.
Finishing the demo gives the Wrangler's Bundle: Ring of Impulse x1, Bonus Ball x1, Smoked Sirloin x5.
What the demo does not show
The demo stops at the Witherwood event. Later chapters, later areas, higher-rank monsters, and the full story are not in it, and neither are the full boss list, the ending, or the complete collection. We will publish those guides after the December 3 release.
