Enshrouded Best Skills to Unlock First

A priority-ordered skill guide for Enshrouded 1.0: Double Jump first, survival and weapon nodes next, keystone-style anchors per build, 1.0 new skills to explore, and skills to delay.

Enshrouded Best Skills to Unlock First
Guide chapters6 chapters

You have 212 skill points at level 50 with full exploration, and a tree of 243 nodes. That sounds generous until you realize how easy it is to spread points thin. This guide gives a priority order for the skills worth unlocking first, the keystone-style picks that anchor a build, and the skills you can safely delay until the mid game.

The Priority Order in One View

The order below is our judgment applied to the verified tree structure, not a quote from a single source. It follows one principle: buy things that help every fight before things that help one kind of fight. Mobility and survival are universal. A damage node for one weapon is not.

PrioritySkill directionWhy first

1

Double Jump (central core, 2 points, 10 stamina)

Opens exploration, loot, shortcuts, and escapes for every build

2

Health and stamina sustain in your zone

Lets you survive mistakes and keep fighting instead of retreating

3

Your main weapon nodes

Damage you actually use every day, not a theoretical best weapon

4

A mobility or escape skill beyond Double Jump (Blink for mages, equivalents elsewhere)

A second way out of a bad position is worth more than a small damage bonus

5

Defense or recovery neighbors (Guardian defense, Healer recovery)

The connected tree rewards short detours into neighboring branches

Keystone-Style Picks: What Anchors a Build

Enshrouded does not label a single keystone per branch the way some action RPGs do, so keystone-style here means the high-impact nodes that define how a build plays, rather than a formal game term. For a Battlemage, that anchor is the combination of wand damage nodes with Blink mobility: the build plays around repositioning and ranged pressure. For a Guardian, the anchor is the defense cluster that lets you hold a front line while teammates or your own follow-up damage work. For a Ranger, the anchor is the bow and stamina cluster that lets you kite, reposition, and sustain fire. Identify your anchor early, but do not rush to its deepest nodes: the prerequisites matter, and a half-built anchor with no survival behind it collapses in real fights.

Best Skills by Playstyle

  • Warrior and Guardian: Constitution and defense nodes first, then weapon nodes for your chosen handedness, then stamina sustain for longer fights.

  • Ranger: Endurance and stamina first, then bow nodes, then movement and dodge options, then Survivor sustain for solo play.

  • Mage and Battlemage: mana and Spirit sustain first, then wand nodes and Blink, then nearby Guardian defense or Healer recovery as your hybrid layer.

  • Co-op support: Healer recovery nodes gain value fast in a group, where keeping teammates up matters more than personal damage.

Skills to Delay Until the Mid Game

Delay narrow specialization: nodes that boost one weapon you might drop, one element you have not committed to, or one situational mechanic you rarely trigger. Delay deep late-tree nodes that require long prerequisite chains until you have the survival base to support them. Delay a second weapon direction until your first direction is solid. None of this means these skills are bad. It means they are bad first buys, because early points are the scarcest points you will ever have relative to the size of the tree, while mid-game points arrive steadily from levels, Shroud Roots, and Elixir Wells.

New Skills Worth Noting in 1.0

Version 1.0 added skills including Aerial Wand Attack, Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Puncture, Barrage, Survival Instinct, Blast and Cast, and Wand Evasion Attack, alongside a broad rebalance. Treat these as mid-game exploration targets, not day-one must-haves, unless one of them directly matches the weapon you have already committed to. Because 1.0 rebalanced many values, do not rely on Early Access-era guides for the strength of any individual skill: test it on a character you can reset at the Flame Altar, and judge it by how it feels in your region, not by an old tier list.

A Practical Unlock Path

  • Double Jump, then survival nodes in your zone, then your main weapon nodes.

  • Add one mobility or escape skill, then a short detour into a neighboring defense or recovery branch.

  • Push toward your build anchor in the mid game, once survival and weapon basics are solid.

  • Explore 1.0 new skills and specialist branches with mid-game points, and reset at the Flame Altar if an experiment does not fit.

A useful habit is to test one new direction at a time. Spend a small batch of points, play for a session in your current region, and only then decide whether to keep pushing that branch or reset at the Flame Altar and try another. Testing in bulk, where five new skills change your playstyle at once, makes it impossible to tell which one actually helped, and turns a cheap reset into a confusing rebuild.
