Enshrouded All Story Bosses in Order: How to Beat Each One
Guide chapters10 chapters

In Enshrouded, bosses are not side content: they are the progression system. From the second Flame upgrade onward, each story boss drops the head that raises your Flame Altar to the next level, and that level decides where you can survive. This guide lists all eight story bosses in Flame order, with where to find each one, which Flame upgrade it unlocks, and practical strategy notes, followed by the optional bosses worth hunting for loot and trophies.

How story bosses work

The rule is simple and worth memorizing. Beat the story boss, carry its head to your Flame Altar, and upgrade. The one exception is the step from Flame 9 to 10, which needs the Broken Guard Of The North Crown relic instead of a boss head, recovered through the Crown Of Sorrow quest in the Cromville Throne Room. Every story boss also drops Legendary Runes on every kill, which are used for the final upgrade levels of legendary gear. The Fell Wispwyvern and Fell Dragon Youngling drop 12 to 16 each, Vorgoth drops 25 to 35, and the other story bosses drop 4 to 8 each, so repeat kills are a real farming route once you can handle them comfortably.

A general strategy note applies to almost every boss in this game: ranged damage is usually the safest opening, because many bosses are built to punish players who stand still in melee range. That does not mean melee builds cannot win these fights, only that you should expect to move, use cover and terrain, watch for telegraphed attacks, and keep an eye on your Shroud timer whenever the fight takes place inside the Shroud. Gear at or near the region's enemy level range matters more than clever tricks, and bringing the right consumables and a repaired weapon is never wasted preparation.

1. Scavenger Matron: Springlands, Flame 2 to 3

Your first gated fight sits at the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands, reached through the Alchemist's quest The Alchemist's Rumors, which sends you into the Scavengers' camp. The kill drops the Scavenger Matron Helmet, the trophy that takes the Flame from level 2 to 3, and the same kill grants the knowledge for the Improved Grappling Hook, which the Carpenter then crafts. Either of two Matron variants can drop the helmet: the Scavenger Gorger Matron at the Hill of Scavengers and Glennwood's End, or the Scavenger Grizzler Matron at Fawnsong Frontier in Revelwood. Strategy-wise, this is a teaching fight: learn to dodge, keep distance when you need to heal, and do not stand in the middle of the camp where adds can surround you.

2. Fell Wispwyvern: Revelwood, Flame 3 to 4

The Fell Wispwyvern, known in its quest as the Castle Beast, waits in the castle behind Pikemead's Reach, the fallen capital of Revelwood. The Blacksmith's quest Reach The Capital, Pikemead's Reach carries a recommended level of 16 and ends with the objective to defeat the Castle Beast. Its reward is the Fell Wispwyvern Head, which upgrades the Flame from level 3 to

4. This fight also earns the Dethroned achievement, described on Steam as defeating the shroud wyvern. As a flying, Shroud-infused enemy, it rewards ranged pressure and patience: stay mobile, avoid committing to long melee combos when it can reposition, and use the arena's cover rather than fighting in the open for the whole encounter.

3. Fell Monstrosity: Nomad Highlands, Flame 4 to 5

The Fell Monstrosity holds the Cradle of Dusk, an enemy camp roughly west of the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire, with a second spot at Conway Camp. It drops the Fell Monstrosity Head for the level 4 to 5 upgrade, along with Monstrous Ribs and a Shroud Nexus. This is a bulky, close-range threat, so the practical advice is the same advice that works across the game: do not trade blows face to face longer than you have to, create distance after its attacks, and punish the recovery window rather than attacking into its active swings. Bring gear suited to enemy levels 16 to 20, not leftover Springlands equipment.

4. Fell Sicklescythe: Kindlewastes, Flame 5 to 6

In the Kindlewastes, start the Carpenter's quest Sun Temple Stories by speaking with Emily Fray, the Farmer, about Elin's Curse, then head to the Haunted Sun Temple near Brittlebush. Completing the objective to defeat the specter in the Haunted Sun Temple earns the Fell Sicklescythe Head, which advances the Flame from level 5 to

6. Another Fell Sicklescythe encounter sits in Ternion Mine, near the temple. Temple fights reward awareness of the room: know where the exits and cover are before you engage, keep moving so you are not cornered, and treat this as a fight where positioning beats raw damage output.

5. Fell Cyclops: Albaneve Summits, Flame 6 to 7

Called the Evil Eye, the Fell Cyclops lives in the Albaneve Summits. After you light the Flame atop the region's Ancient Spire, the quest Ignite The Coldest Elixir Well sends you into the main Elixir Well with the objective to defeat the Evil Eye inside the Elixir Well. The Fell Cyclops Head upgrades the Flame from level 6 to 7, and the fight also drops the Enshrouded Cyclops Eye. This is a fight where the eye itself is the danger: expect aimed attacks from it, keep moving laterally rather than backing straight away, and sort out cold protection before you enter, since the well and the surrounding region are bitterly cold. Do not arrive in a summer gear set and expect to focus on dodging.

6. Fell Dragon Youngling: Albaneve Summits, Flame 7 to 8

The corrupted beast broods at Howling Peak in the Albaneve Summits. The Flame's quest Slaying The Corrupted Beast, recommended level 34, has you light every Balefire around the innermost mountain to wake the beast, then challenge the beast on Howling Peak. Its head carries the Flame from level 7 to 8, which lets Flame Altars keep the cold away when you build. This fight also earns the King of the mountain achievement, described on Steam as defeating the dragon. Prepare for a large, mobile boss: ranged damage and careful stamina management are your friends, and lighting all the Balefires before engaging means you start the fight on your terms rather than stumbling into it.

7. Hydrak'Dal: Veilwater Basin, Flame 8 to 9

The Drak leader is fought at spots near Orville in the Veilwater Basin. The Fisher's quest Vengeance has you bring a keepsake, Drak Scales, vanquish 25 Drak, and then challenge the Drak leader. The Hydrak'Dal Head upgrades the Flame from level 8 to 9 and lets you go deeper into the Veilwater Basin. Because the quest asks you to clear Drak first, treat the lead-up as preparation rather than a chore: by the time you have the scales and the kills, you should know the area, the enemy mix, and the route to the boss arena, which is exactly the knowledge that makes the boss fight itself manageable.

8. Vorgoth: Cinder's Cradle, Flame 10 to 11

Vorgoth waits in the Mother Flame's Domicile inside the Ancient Citadel, high above Cinder's Cradle, at the end of the Ancient Researcher's quest Cinders Of The End. The fight runs across two forms: first Vorgoth, Champion of the Shroud, a humanoid phase in the ornate arena at the summit, then Vorgoth, The Wanderer's Vessel, a far larger second form that fills the arena. Defeating both forms drops Vorgoth's Bound Essence and Vorgoth's Eye, which takes the Flame from level 10 to 11, plus the Shroud Vessel's Greatsword and Legendary Runes. Two warnings matter more than any other tip. First, Shroud-based damage is ineffective against both forms, so check your weapon and spells before entering. Second, the second form is reported as weak to Fire and immune to Shroud, so a Fire setup is worth bringing if your build supports it. The detailed Vorgoth strategy and the ending are covered in the Cinder's Cradle guide.

Optional bosses: worth it for loot and trophies

Plenty of other bosses give materials and trophies, but none of them feed a Flame upgrade, so you can take them on whenever you want rather than in a fixed order. The ones below are the most useful to know. This section deliberately keeps strategy general: exact movesets for optional bosses vary by location and variant, and inventing a move list would be worse than saying so honestly. The rule that holds everywhere is the same: match your gear to the region, keep moving, and use ranged pressure when a boss is built for close-range punishment.

  • Fell Thunderbrute, Springlands near the Small Flint Mine, and its Armored variant at the Ancient Bridge in Revelwood: drops the Fell Thunderbrute Head and a Shroud Core, and guards the first Elixir Well, which is why it also unlocks the Thundering success achievement.

  • Fell Striker, Springlands at Ferndale: a fast, lunging boss whose head feeds a trophy set; treat its charges as telegraphed and dodge sideways rather than backwards.

  • Hollow Cyclops, at the bottom of the Revelwood Hollow Halls: the Collector's quest Ectoplasm Press For The Collector points here, at a recommended level of 17, and its head builds the Ectoplasm Press.

  • Fell Critter Queen, near the Gate to the Pillars of Creation in Revelwood, including a Crimson variant: a trophy boss worth clearing when you are passing through the region anyway.

  • Vukah Brawler, at the Low Meadows camp through the Carpenter's Vukah Ceremony quest, and later at Vukah Cave Pillar and Vukah Arena: its head feeds the Hunter's Scavenger Gong and the Vukah Shrine.

  • Direwolf, in an Ancient Vault in the Springlands, and Scavenger Tyrant in the Albaneve Summits: early and late examples of trophy bosses that are worth fighting when your gear already matches the area.

  • Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct, in Cinder's Cradle on the route to Vorgoth and elsewhere: a heavily armored Ancients boss whose eye and cores are late-game crafting materials.

  • Hollow Wispwyvern, boss of the Veilwater Basin Hollow Halls: drops Icy Giant Bones and the Hollow Wispwyvern Head, a late-game trophy target.

If you only remember one thing from this guide, make it the order. Scavenger Matron, Fell Wispwyvern, Fell Monstrosity, Fell Sicklescythe, Fell Cyclops, Fell Dragon Youngling, Hydrak'Dal, the Broken Guard relic, then Vorgoth. Every other system in Enshrouded, from Survivors to gear tiers to region achievements, hangs off that chain, and knowing which boss unlocks which Flame level turns a confusing open world into a readable road.
