Mycopunk plays two different games depending on how many people are in the squad: a careful solo run where every mistake is yours, and a four-player run where the biggest danger is often your own teammate. The two are linked by one set of rules that the store page does not spell out, and this guide spells them out with their sources attached: friendly fire, split-piece revives, ammo that flows between weapons, and the small solo adjustment 1.0 made.

1. Squads: up to four, and different on purpose
The store page lists 4-player co-op alongside single-player, so a squad tops out at four and a solo run is a supported choice, not a fallback. According to player community sources, the five employees split the work in recognisable ways: Wrangler the cowboy with a lasso, Bruiser the tank, Scrapper with a jetpack and a grapple pole the whole team can use, Glider with flight and a healing rocket, and the Mycologist with her infection kit from 1.0. The same sources add a community view on strength: Glider is seen as strongest early, Wrangler strongest late, and all four original employees hold up at high threat. A squad of four different employees is also the condition for one achievement, Full Crew, according to community sources.
Meet in the hub before you launch, not in the mission. The hub is where the squad forms, where the drop-pod bay sits, and where a mission panel shows the threat level you are about to accept. A squad that agrees on threat before dropping spends the mission fighting enemies; a squad that does not spends it arguing about why threat 5 felt different from threat 2.
2. Revives: a downed teammate comes apart
According to player community sources, friendly fire is on in Mycopunk, and the revive rule is stranger than a timer. According to the same player wiki material, a downed teammate splits into two pieces: carrying both pieces back and reassembling them revives them, or spare parts can be called in to rebuild them at a distance. The downed screen below, with its ask-for-help prompt, is the moment that rule starts, and it is captioned without any player names.
The practical consequences follow from that rule rather than from a generic revive tip. First, a downed teammate is a two-piece pickup problem, not a stand-next-to-them problem, so the squad needs someone free to carry. Second, the distant rebuild option means a squad does not always have to fight its way back to the body, but it does have to decide which option it can afford mid-fight. Third, because friendly fire is on, the revive itself can be interrupted by your own squad, which is the next section.
3. Friendly fire: on, tracked, and worth respecting
According to player community sources, friendly fire is on, and the game keeps score: the end-of-mission screen below tallies friendly-fire damage for each player, with one entry running into six figures. That tally is the reason this section is not a joke tip. In a game where enemies can be dismantled piece by piece and dropped parts can be reclaimed, a careless burst does not just hurt a teammate, it can break a revive, scatter a fight, or finish a player who was already down.
Do not fire through a teammate to reach an enemy. The damage is real, and the game records it.
Call your shots before a big burst in a tight corridor, especially when a revive is in progress.
If your friendly-fire tally is climbing, change position before changing weapons. The problem is usually the angle, not the gun.
4. Ammo that flows between weapons
According to player community sources, damage dealt with one weapon refunds ammunition for the other, and the design encourages switching weapons often. For a squad that means a simple discipline: do not sit on one empty gun while a full one is in your other hand, and do not let a teammate burn through both weapons while you still have damage to trade. For a solo player the same rule is a lifeline, because switching is the cheapest reload in the game when no one is covering you.
5. Solo play: supported, and slightly softer at threat 3 and 4
Single-player is a listed mode, not a missing feature, and the first guides in this column are written for it. According to player community sources, 1.0 made one solo adjustment: solo players face a slightly lower enemy cap at threat levels 3 and
4. That is a small adjustment, not a separate solo difficulty, and it does not remove the need for a build that works: the grid, the rarity unlocks and the threat ladder apply exactly the same way, with no squad to carry a weak link.
Learn at threat 1 and 2, where a mistake costs a run, not a squad argument.
Pick Glider first if you want the community-favoured early safety net: flight plus a healing rocket, according to player community sources.
Switch weapons to keep ammo flowing, because no teammate is coming with a spare magazine.
6. Choosing threat as a squad
According to player community sources, the named threat rungs are threat 1 Safe, threat 6 Onslaught and threat 7 Predicament. A new squad should start at threat 1, a squad with a finished build can test the middle rungs, and the top rungs are for squads that already know who revives, who carries, and who stops firing. If your squad cannot answer those three questions, it is not ready for the top rungs yet, whatever its weapons look like.
FAQ
Is friendly fire really on? According to player community sources, yes, and the end-of-mission screen tallies it per player.
What happens when a teammate goes down? According to player community sources, the teammate splits into two pieces: carry both back and reassemble them, or call spare parts to rebuild at a distance.
Does solo play change enemy numbers? According to player community sources, solo players face a slightly lower enemy cap at threat levels 3 and 4 since 1.0.
Is cross-platform co-op supported? Not confirmed. Do not assume PC and PS5 players can squad together on the basis of this guide.
