Phantom Blade Zero has 62 boss fights behind 57 different health bars. This guide lists every fight in story order, marks each one main or optional, and names the weapon or item it drops, so you can check what you have missed without wading through the conflicting counts on other sites.
At a glance
62 boss fights, 57 different health-bar names, in story order.
About 31 main fights and 31 optional fights, by post-launch list counts.
Most boss drops are weapons or Phantom Edges; a few fights drop accessories, key items, or nothing.
Enemies do not respawn, so a boss drop can only be earned once per playthrough cycle.
Quick answer
Find your region in section 3, then check the Type column: Main fights gate the story, Optional fights do not.
Learn the three attack signals before any hard fight: blue can be parried, red must be dodged, black smoke should be dodged.
If you die in a later phase, you resume at that phase, not at the start of the fight.
1. How to read the count: 62 fights, 57 names
The number 62 counts fights, not distinct characters. The same boss can appear twice, and one boss can change its health-bar name between phases. Counted that way, post-launch lists from three independent guides agree on 62 fights and 57 distinct health-bar names. The producer said before launch that the game would have at least 50 bosses; that claim holds under either count.
Repeat appearances are part of the count. The Hunt fights you twice, the Gold-Masked One duels you five times across the Long Pillars, and You Loong returns in a frenzied form. Phase name changes are also part of it: Bai Chilian becomes the Sacrificial Serpent in phase 2, Blaze becomes Phosphor Consciousness, and the true-ending Zuo Shang sequence is two fights back to back. This guide counts the Gold-Masked One final duel (Mo Yuan) as one fight and the true-ending Zuo Shang sequence as two fights; that is how the total reaches 62.
Other numbers you may see use different counting rules. One site lists 74 entries because it counts every title separately, splitting Bai Chilian and the Yucong variants into multiple lines. Another homepage claims 75 fights in 59 battles without explaining its rule, and it conflicts with the three 62-fight lists. Pre-launch pages listing 8 or 10 bosses are demo-era material and are out of date. S-GAME has not published an official boss list, so every total here is a post-launch community count, not an official figure.
2. Boss combat rules that apply to every fight
Bosses in Phantom Blade Zero telegraph their most dangerous moves by color, and the correct response is the same in every fight. Learning this table once will carry you through the whole list below.
Blue glow, Brutal Move: parry it. A successful parry costs you no Sha-Chi and drains a large amount of the boss Sha-Chi.
Red glow, Killer Move: do not block or parry. Dodge on timing to trigger Ghoststep and end up behind the boss.
Black smoke attacks: dodge rather than block, because blocking drains a large amount of your Sha-Chi.
Multi-phase bosses refill their health each phase, but if you die in a later phase you resume at that phase.
Swapping your main weapon restores Sha-Chi, which makes weapon variety a combat resource, not just a preference.
Enemies do not respawn. A boss drop can only be earned once per playthrough cycle, so do not skip a fight you want the weapon from.
3. The full list, in story order
Chinese names are given only where a Chinese-language guide confirms them; other rows show the English health-bar name in both languages rather than an invented translation. The Type column follows post-launch lists and can differ slightly between sites for a few borderline fights. Where a drop is not listed, the table says so instead of guessing.

4. The repeat series: Long Pillar, Acolyte, and trophy groups
Several fights belong to series that span regions. If you are hunting a specific reward or trophy, chase the series, not a single region.
Long Pillar duels (5): Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Meigu Lake, Phantom Illusionist Ruins, Mirage Estate. Rewards: Counterstrike Bracers, Miraculous Scabbard, Flaming Grip or Quenched Flaming Grip, no weapon for the fourth, and the Mo Yuan finale.
Straw-man Acolyte duels (4): Yanru (fire, Village of Lu), Lei Ting (lightning, Pangzhen), Guhe (poison, Meigu Lake), Hansui (ice, Crimson Manor duo). Each drops its own mask.
The Four Freed: Yuzan, Yubi, Yuding, and Yucong, the four numbered puppets.
Three Wardens Fall: Cavalrybane, Soulclaimer, and Heartpiercer, the three elite Shadow Wardens.
Master of the Misty Waters: both You Loong fights, One-Eyed Archer, and Yan Qiansui.
The Two Blade Masters: Zhu Yuan and Bi Feng.
5. What this guide does not claim
This is a complete list with drops, not a move-by-move guide for all 62 fights. Individual movesets, health values, and weakness tables for most bosses are either missing from public sources or only published by a single site without cross-checking, so they are not copied here. Where a note above is single-source, it is labeled as such.
Two naming traps are worth avoiding. First, demo-era names are not final names: Commander Cleave became Bi Feng, Tie Sha became Iron Butcher, Red Wraith became Red, and Chief Disciple of Seven Stars became Chief Disciple of the Seven-Stars Formation. Second, Chinese boss names here are only the ones Chinese guides confirm; the rest are left in English on purpose, because an invented translation would be worse than an English health-bar name.
FAQ
Is 62 the number of different bosses?
No. 62 is the number of fights. Distinct health-bar names total 57, and distinct characters are fewer still, because some bosses return for rematches and some change names between phases.
Do I need to beat the optional bosses?
No for the story, yes for completion. Optional fights gate weapons, accessories, key items, and trophy groups, and their drops cannot be earned elsewhere in the same cycle because enemies do not respawn.
Can I refight a boss for its drop?
No. Enemies do not respawn, so a boss drop is earned once per playthrough cycle. A new cycle (New Game Plus) restocks the fights.
Why do some sites say 74 or 75 bosses?
They count differently. The 74 figure counts every title separately, and the 75 figure comes from a homepage that does not explain its rule. Both conflict with the three post-launch lists that agree on 62 fights.
