Phantom Blade Zero True Ending and New Game Plus: Checklist, Inheritance, and 66 Days

How to reach Phantom Blade Zero's true ending, what carries into New Game Plus, and how the 66 Days mode works, with the disputed checklist items marked as disputed.

Phantom Blade Zero True Ending and New Game Plus: Checklist, Inheritance, and 66 Days
Guide chapters13 chapters

Phantom Blade Zero has two verified main endings: the normal ending and the true ending. The true ending is not a single choice at the end; it is a checklist you build across the whole game, and two warnings tell you when the checklist is about to close. This guide gives you that checklist, marks the items guides disagree about, and then covers what happens after the credits: New Game Plus and the 66 Days mode.

At a glance

  • 2 verified main endings: normal and true (All Comes to Light).

  • True-ending core: 11 purple Mysteries plus the 5 Long Pillar duels.

  • Disputed extras: 4 Acolyte masks, 2 Crystal Puppet Eyes, and the full Quick Hand chain.

  • New Game Plus: talk to Inanis in the Puppet Cell after the credits; 66 Days mode is a separate, harsher run.

Quick answer

  • Do purple Mysteries as you meet them; do not leave them for the endgame.

  • At each warning (Mirage Estate, then the Last Chance bell), save and check the list before proceeding.

  • If the checklist is incomplete at the warnings, go back: after the Last Chance bell you cannot leave the endgame area.

1. How many endings: 2 verified, 8 claimed, 3 by one split

Post-launch guides that played the game verify two main endings: the normal ending and the true ending (trophy name With Heart and Blood, ending name All Comes to Light). The normal ending is what you get if you beat the final boss without completing the true-ending checklist; the true ending replaces the final sequence with the two-fight Zuo Shang battle through the golden portal.

Two other numbers need context. The producer said in a 2025 interview that there would be 8 endings, but no post-launch guide has listed 8 distinct endings, and the same outlet later described the rest as variations on the normal ending; one unattributed social-media quote even walks the claim back. Separately, one site splits the endings into 3 by whether two late Story quests (Secrets at the Heart of the Lake and Bloodline Awakening) are complete, which produces two variants of the normal-ending final fight rather than a third distinct ending. This guide writes 2 main endings and treats the rest as variants and claims, not as settled fact.

2. True-ending checklist

The core is not disputed: complete the 11 purple Mysteries and the 5 Long Pillar duels. The extras below are where guides disagree, and this guide marks them as recommended rather than required, because one major guide list omits them while others include them.

ItemStatusNotes

11 purple Mysteries

Required (consensus)

Deep in the Valley, Illusion of Inanis, Sha-Chi Powered Boat, Allure of Vanity, Illusory Pipa, Pillars of Kunlun, Whence the Weeping, The Herald's Illusion, Crimson Manor, Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, Bloodline Awakening. Note: the 5th Long Pillar sits inside Mirage Estate, so Bloodline Awakening can be finished after entering the estate.

5 Long Pillar duels

Required (consensus)

Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Meigu Lake, Phantom Illusionist Ruins, Mirage Estate (Mo Yuan finale).

4 Acolyte masks

Recommended; required status disputed

Yanru, Lei Ting, Guhe, Hansui. Needed to enter the mirror realm for Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, which is itself required.

2 Crystal Puppet Eyes

Recommended; required status disputed

Yang from the Crimson Manor duo fight; Yin from the Mountain of Imprisonment. Used at statues in the true-ending chain.

Full Quick Hand Zhang chain

Recommended; required status disputed

16 treasures across 5 regions. One guide list explicitly marks this as unconfirmed as a requirement.

True-ending final sequence

Result, not a checklist item

If the checklist is complete, the golden portal opens on Mount Soulrend and the two-fight Zuo Shang sequence begins.

3. The two warnings, in order

  • First warning: entering Mirage Estate. The game warns about unfinished business. Check the checklist and finish open purple Mysteries and side quests before going deeper.

  • Second warning: the Last Chance bell on Mount Soulrend. After this bell, you cannot leave the endgame area until the ending plays. The ending locks when the Leng Tu fight begins.

  • Practical rule: save at both warnings. If anything on the checklist is open, turn back at the first warning; at the second warning, turning back is no longer possible.

4. New Game Plus: how to start, what carries, what resets

After the credits, go to the Puppet Cell in the Mountain of Imprisonment and talk to Inanis to start New Game Plus. There is no New Game Plus exclusive story chapter and no New Game Plus exclusive trophy; the producer has said exclusive story was deliberately not held back for a second run.

Carries overResets

Gear, weapons, Phantom Edges, accessories, ability training, Archives.

Quests, map exploration, key items, remaining days.

Weapon and Edge levels, including further upgrades past 30: re-pick a weapon or Edge to unlock more levels; re-picked accessories can gain +1 (single-source report).

Enemy placement refreshes (the no-respawn rule still applies within the new cycle).

Medicine capacity reached in the first run does not increase again (single-source report).

Exploration Edges must be re-picked in the new cycle before they can be used.

5. Cycle system and 66 Days mode

New Game Plus runs on a Cycle system: 32 abilities, 5 assignable levels per Cycle, up to NG+6, with the final levels requiring Banyan Heart and Remnant Dust plus full sets of Sha-Chi Ambers, Blackstones, and Memory Flowers. That whole paragraph is a single-source chain (one guide reporting another), so treat the per-Cycle enemy multipliers as unverified: no reliable per-Cycle health and damage table has been found, and this guide does not invent one.

66 Days mode is separate from New Game Plus. It unlocks after the story and runs on its own save: Hellwalker-grade enemy AI with a budget of 66 deaths, no manual save loading, and a regret ending if the budget runs out. It has no exclusive trophy. Do not confuse its regret ending with the main story endings.

FAQ

Can I still get the true ending if I missed a purple quest?

Only if you can still complete it. After the Last Chance bell you cannot leave the endgame area, so a missed purple quest at that point means the normal ending for this run; use a region-start save or a new cycle.

Is the 8-endings claim true?

Not as 8 distinct endings. Post-launch guides verify 2 main endings; the 8 figure is a pre-launch producer statement that no post-launch guide has turned into 8 distinct endings, and later coverage describes the rest as normal-ending variations.

Does New Game Plus have exclusive story or trophies?

No. Multiple guides agree there is no New Game Plus exclusive story chapter and no exclusive trophy.

What happens if I run out of deaths in 66 Days mode?

The run ends with a regret ending on that separate save. It is not one of the main story endings.
