Electrical is a short, high-value utility grind. You do not need to dismantle every appliance in Knox Country: read the correct book, destroy low-value electronics, prioritize higher-XP devices, keep the Scrap Electronics, and stop once you hit the unlock your run actually needs. Electrical 1 supports hotwiring with Mechanics 2; Electrical 3 provides generator-connection knowledge.
Quick answer
Simple electronics and CD player/home alarm/remote/speaker recipe groups award 2 base Electrical XP per dismantle.
Televisions, radios, walkie-talkies and similar “Electronic Device” inputs award 10 base XP in the current B42 recipe data.
Generator repair consumes one Scrap Electronics, restores 4 + 0.5 × Electrical level condition, and grants 5 Electrical XP.

| Target | Electrical requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Hotwire | Electrical 1 + Mechanics 2 | Early vehicle mobility |
Generator knowledge | Electrical 3 | Connect Generator without relying on the magazine |
Generator repair | Any usable repair state | Consumes Scrap Electronics and awards Electrical XP |
Higher electronics | Higher skill / knowledge | Specialist lamps, radios and crafted systems |
Read Electrical I before touching the junk pile
Electrical leveling is ideal for book multipliers because you can stockpile electronics, then dismantle them in one safe session. Loot a screwdriver or compatible tool first, read the current skill book, and only then start destroying watches, cameras, flashlights and household electronics.
Do not dismantle useful radios, flashlights or communication gear automatically. Skill XP is not worth losing the only device your group actually needs.
Use the 2 XP and 10 XP recipe groups intelligently
Current B42 recipe data gives +2 Electrical XP for simple electronic items and for the CD Player/Home Alarm/TV Remote/Speaker group. A separate Dismantle Electronic Device recipe gives +10 XP for televisions, radios, walkie-talkies and related devices.
That makes large unwanted devices valuable training targets. Plan a route through homes, electronics stores or abandoned bases, but leave functional strategic equipment intact.
Scrap Electronics is not trash
Dismantling produces Scrap Electronics, and that scrap is useful after you hit your first skill goal. Generator repair consumes one scrap and current 42.20.4 data gives 5 Electrical XP per repair action while restoring condition based on your skill.
Store a dedicated scrap box beside the generator. A pile of scrap becomes both maintenance stock and a later trickle of Electrical XP.
Stop at the milestone your run needs
For many solo survivors, Electrical 1 is enough to pair with Mechanics 2 for hotwiring. Electrical 3 is the next major survival breakpoint because it unlocks generator connection knowledge.
If your campaign is not building specialist electronics, it can be smarter to stop at 3 and spend your time on fuel, Carpentry, food or vehicle maintenance. Utility skills are strongest when they solve a concrete bottleneck.

Dismantle option missing | Bring a screwdriver-compatible tool and make sure the item is an accepted recipe input. |
XP is very low | Read the correct Electrical skill book and prioritize 10-XP device recipes. |
No Connect Generator at Electrical 3 | Confirm the skill actually reached 3 and interact with a valid placed generator. |
