Event rules, party preparation, travel routes and battle strategies for all eighteen sect encounters.
How the event works
Level 40 or higher; a party of at least 3 players.
The first Sunday of each month, 15:00–17:00.
Sect Challenge Envoys at Chang'an (98,
214) and (200, 224), or Zhuzi Kingdom (137, 63), (99, 81), (112,
45) and (76, 69).
Experience, money, reserve money, event points and random items. Qualifying parties and players receive special rewards. Double reward time and refined training do not apply. Basic and intermediate Hui Meng Pills, Secret Hui Meng Drinks and Tongxin Jade Brew do apply. There is no attempt limit during the event, and death causes no loss. Completing a full round awards 10 Taiqing Talismans.
1. You cannot replace party members midway through a round. A player who leaves or disconnects may rejoin and continue.
2. The challenge succeeds as long as the leader survives, but dead teammates do not receive that encounter's reward.
3. After a failed challenge, progress is retained, but you must wait 5 minutes to try again.
4. Changing party members when starting a new round resets the party score, not individual scores.
5. The NPC disappears at 24:00 on the event day.
Preparation
Bring Guide Flags, Tang Wilderness Guide Flags, a Lingguang Treasure Box (optional for level-69 players) and transformation cards.
Sumeru pets are recommended, ideally with Perception. If you have few Perception Sumeru pets, bring at least two fixed-damage characters who can use Perception transformation cards, such as Putuo or Wudidong.
Physical: advanced Centipede General is strongly recommended for its extra damage and low cost.
Magic: Flame Demon God or Spirit Crane.
Fixed damage: Jiaolong or Fox Spirit.
Consider the guardians at Dragon Palace, Heavenly Palace, Tianji City, Nüba Tomb, Shenmu Forest, Wuzhuang Temple, Pansi Cave and Huaguo Mountain. Wuzhuang and Pansi can instead be reached with wilderness flags.
Make individual flags through master-and-apprentice tasks. Suggested coordinates are Wuzhuang (633,
77) and Pansi (528, 113). If you have plenty of mentor points, you can also make flags for Shituo (8,
49) and Demon King's Stronghold (55, 114), although these are less necessary.
Wudidong: Flying Talisman to Baoxiang Kingdom → Wanzi Mountain → Bottomless Pit.
Nüba Tomb: Guide Flag to the station → Tang Border → Chishui Islet → Nüba Tomb; this route is for players above level
96. Alternatively, flag to the station south of Aolai → East Sea Bay → East Sea Cavern → Nüba Tomb. The second route works at any level, but flying is prohibited inside East Sea Cavern, where you are forced to land.
Heavenly Palace: flag to southwest Zhuzi Kingdom → Tang Wilderness → Changshou Outskirts → Heavenly Palace.
Lingbo City: flag to the station → Tang Border → Lingbo City.
Enemy mechanics
The boss has the Adversity trait: when at least 3 units are sealed, it uses Jingqing on the next turn. It also has Countershock, Advanced Exorcism, Secret Lost-Heart Talisman, Confusion Curse, Sound of Death and Sihai Shengping. Its HP, defenses and speed are higher than those of the adds.
All adds have Good and Evil, Heart Healing and Shuiqing. Their sects are randomized within the race associated with that encounter; only adds from the six newer sects can use those sects' skills.
On encounters 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 of each round, one random add has Advanced Invisibility. At encounters 7 and 13, the number of adds increases by one compared with the previous encounter.
Sect order is random, no sect repeats within a round, and enemy resistances differ by sect. The numbered descriptions below organize the guide; they do not prescribe the actual encounter order.

2. Chang'an (8, 4) → Tang Border (220, 62) → Putuo Mountain.
Some enemies resist both damage types strongly. Overall, physical resistance is high and magic resistance is also fairly high.

Tang Border
1. Chang'an station master (275, 40) → Tang Border (50, 325) → Underworld.

4 · Pansi Cave
Tang Wilderness
Chang'an station master (280, 43) → Tang Border (5, 88) → Tang Wilderness (530, 11) → (175, 123).
The supplied Chinese row labels the final entrance as Demon King's Stronghold, conflicting with its Pansi heading and the separate flag coordinates above. Verify this route in game.
The boss is very fast; overall resistance is low.
Pansi enemies can drain substantial MP. Replenish it after the fight.

Bottomless Pit (Wudidong)
Baoxiang Kingdom / Wanzi Mountain
Flying Talisman to Baoxiang Kingdom → Wanzi Mountain (28, 15).

2. Flying Talisman or Guide Flag to Zhuzi (4, 4) → Tang Wilderness (8, 49).
The supplied Chinese row labels the destination as Demon King's Stronghold, conflicting with its Shituo heading. Verify the entrance in game.

If you cannot clear the battle in one turn, focus transformed Shituo enemies on turn 2 to prevent time-consuming Eagle Strike attacks.

Chang'an (352, 73) → War God Mountain (15, 38) → Shenmu Forest.
Generally slow, with high magic damage and resistance but low physical resistance.

2. Flying Talisman or Guide Flag to Changshou Village (145, 4) → Changshou Outskirts (18, 58) → Heavenly Palace.
Fast enemies with high physical and magic resistance and noticeable spell evasion.
Sumeru pets have less of an advantage because some enemies belong to Tiangong and frequently evade spells.

Tang Wilderness
Chang'an station (280, 45) → Tang Border (4, 75) → Tang Wilderness (634, 77) → Wuzhuang Temple.
Generally fast enemies with high resistance.

The boss is very fast. Enemies generally have high magic resistance but lower physical resistance.

13 · Tianji City
Zhuzi Kingdom / Tang Wilderness
Flying Talisman or Zhuzi Guide Flag → Zhuzi Kingdom → Phantom Dada at Tang Wilderness (190, 10).
The boss strongly resists both damage types. Overall resistance and speed are high.
Several enemies use Tianji skills that reduce area damage and Sumeru damage. Numerous mechanical enemies may also transform at the start, making this a time-consuming encounter.
14 · Fangcun Mountain
Changshou Village
Use a Flying Talisman to Changshou Village, then enter Fangcun Mountain at (108, 204).
Very fast enemies, with high magic resistance and lower physical resistance.
Similar to Daughters' Village, but sealing interference is even more disruptive.
15 · Huasheng Temple
Chang'an
Use a Flying Talisman to Chang'an, then walk to (508,
274) to enter Huasheng Temple.
Generally slow, with very high physical resistance and lower magic resistance.
Magic characters and Sumeru pets have a clear advantage and can deal high damage. Physical attacks are less effective.
16 · Datang Government
Chang'an
Use a Flying Talisman to Chang'an, then walk to around (310, 273).
Generally slow enemies with low resistance, but very high damage.
Like Lingbo City and Huaguo Mountain, this encounter can remove a great deal of HP from poorly defended characters. Heal promptly afterward.
17 · Lingbo City
Tang Border
1. Chang'an station master (280, 43) → Tang Border Land God (176, 260).
2. Chang'an (8, 4) → Tang Border Land God (176, 260).

Many enemies use Lingbo skills. Repeated Fanjiang Jiaohai attacks take time; prioritize those enemies.
18 · Huaguo Mountain
Aolai Kingdom / Huaguo Mountain
1. Chang'an (542, 4) → Jiangnan Wilderness (151, 51) → Jianye (274, 27) → East Sea Bay (63, 15) → Aolai (213, 140) → Huaguo Mountain (145, 12) → Illusory Huaguo Mountain.
2. Changshou Village (145, 4) → Changshou Outskirts (60, 67) → Beiju Luzhou (197, 105) → Huaguo Mountain (145, 12) → Illusory Huaguo Mountain.
Generally fast enemies with low resistance and extremely high damage.
This encounter is somewhat luck-dependent. Many enemies use Ruyi Shentong, and Shenzhen Hanhai can make the battle lengthy. Restore HP fully before entering so a Dangtou Yibang strike does not cause an unexpected defeat.
Rewards
The event awards substantial experience, money and reserve money. The supplied guide gives level 109, without a Hui Meng Pill, as an example of roughly 100,000 experience and around 50,000 money plus reserve money, without specifying the counting interval. Item rewards can include Five Treasures, Seahorses, tier-2 medicines and basic or advanced beast manuals.
After completing a full round, collect an extra item reward from a Sect Challenge Envoy. The top 20 players by individual score can also receive the Three Realms Elite title, valid for one month.
Summary
Over successive game updates, the Sect Challenge has evolved from a demanding activity into a widely played repeatable weekend event. The addition of Nüba Tomb, Tianji City and Huaguo Mountain brought fresh encounters to this long-running activity. Its variety and generous rewards remain the main attractions for Fantasy Westward Journey players.
