Mementos are Silver Pines' build system: 25 keepsakes scattered across the town, each one granting a passive bonus when equipped — faster reloads, cheaper dodges, harder headshots — and several carrying a trade-off that makes the choice interesting. This guide lists every Memento, what it does, exactly where it sits, and which tool or story beat gates it. Three of them drop from boss bodies and can be left behind, and one slot on the list is a coin flip between two different items, so read the warnings before you rush a cleared area.

At a glance

  • Total: 25 to collect (26 exist in the game; the two Corsages share one dig spot — see the note below)

  • Equip slots: 1 at the start, up to 5

  • More slots: 4 Memento Vessel Shards = 1 extra slot; 16 shards total, hidden inside wind-chime bird figurines

  • Identification: Take finds to Julee the waitress; Mementos can be equipped once identified

  • Missables: 3 boss-body drops (Corroded Iron Ball, Snake Earring, 8 Ball Gear Shift)

  • Achievement: "Burden of Memories" — find all Mementos

The "examine" prompt is how most secrets in Silver Pines introduce themselves. Mementos are no different — pick everything up. Player screenshot via Steam Community.

How Mementos work

You start with a single equip slot, so your first Memento choice is forced: whatever you find first carries you. Slots expand with Memento Vessel Shards, which hang inside wooden bird figurines strung with wind chimes — knock a figurine down and the shard drops. Four shards combine into a Vessel, and each Vessel adds a slot, up to a maximum of five slots from 16 shards.

The inventory screen. Equipped Mementos are listed under Red's portrait at left — here the Corroded Iron Ball and the Empty Matchstick Box sit below the snub .38 revolver and the baseball bat, and the panel also tracks Red's condition ("lightly injured"). Frame from the Silver Pines full-collection playthrough by 友利奈绪大魔王丶 (Bilibili).

Effects stack by theme. Melee builds lean on the Switchblade Cufflink, Mended Tooth and V Guitar Pick; gun builds want the Empty Matchstick Box, Badge 0013 and Smooth Stone With A Hole. Anything that reads "damage received +" is a real cost in a game where healing is scarce, so treat the Dice Pair and Bloody Corsage as deliberate gambles, not free power.

Outskirts & the Crimson Bear Motel (4)

1. Empty Matchstick Box

Effect: Weapon reloads 25% faster.

2. Chipped Ceramic Bear

Effect: Increases maximum stamina.

Where: Crimson Bear Motel, in the room behind the palm-tree door in the Gift Shop basement, on the sofa.

How to reach it: The door has no knob. Fish the Grime Covered Object out of the pool drain with the Pool Net (Grizzly Suite), combine it with the Cleaning Solution from Bungalo 1 to make the Door Knob, and fit it. You collect the bear on your way back through the basement after the Rabbit Hole sequence the door leads to.

3. Corroded Iron Ball

Effect: Damage received −10%.

Where: On the body of the tunnel boss, on the way back to the ferry.

How to reach it: Beat the first boss in the Tunnel, then loot the body before you move on.

4. Switchblade Cufflink

Effect: Melee attacks 30% faster.

Where: In a yellow toolbox in the tunnel off the trail, on the underpass route toward Rodney's General Store.

How to reach it: Go through the white sheet barrier, break the padlock on the gate near the open manhole, hop the railing and break the wooden barrier. The toolbox is behind it.

Downtown, Town Square & the Sewers (11)

Market Street holds the densest cluster of Mementos in the game — eleven across Downtown, Town Square, the Sewers and the Union Apartments. Player screenshot by Steam user 鳄鱼阿棺 (Steam Community).

5. Repaired Polaroid

Effect: Use healing items faster; Flatleaf Herbs heal 50% faster.

Where: It doesn't sit anywhere — combine the two halves of the Torn Polaroid.

How to reach it: Half one is in Eddie's guitar case in the Grizzly Suite at the motel. Half two is backstage at the Rabbit Hole bar, on the dressing-table mirror. Combine them in your inventory.

6. Smooth Stone With A Hole

Effect: Headshots deal 20% more damage.

Where: Inside the locked bird cage in the Quiet Hours Cafe.

How to reach it: Place all three bird statuettes in the cage: the Red Bird Statuette on a trolley in the Friendly Paws vet clinic, the Yellow Bird Statuette on the counter in the Movie Theater lobby, and the Silver Bird Statuette in a nest by the caravan northwest of town — shoot the padlock to drop the ladder up to it. The stone is your reward when the cage opens. (Full puzzle walkthrough in our bird cage guide.)

The Quiet Hours Cafe: the bird cage, the Mended Tooth and a very good shotgun all live under this sign. Player screenshot via Steam Community.

7. Mended Tooth

Effect: Melee damage +15%; cost — melee weapons lose durability 25% faster.

How to reach it: Work through the cafe's back rooms; guides route you in via the back doors behind the Movie Theater and Sport Smart side of the block.

8. Cat Collar

Effect: Your dodge becomes a faster roll.

Where: Left behind by the cat in the cage in the Friendly Paws vet clinic basement.

How to reach it: Get the Pet Clinic Key from a car trunk in the storage unit near the UNION sign, then reach the basement from the water: jump off the dock to the right of the clinic and come through the sewers to the back door. The cage code is 3819 — the cats' ages, from the Friendly Paws List inside the clinic. Open the cage and the cat leaves the collar behind.

9. Faceless Coin

Effect: Charged melee attacks deal 20% more damage.

Where: On the printing press in the back room of the Silver Gazette.

How to reach it: The hatch controls follow the ship manual page found at the Riverside docks: press Door → Release Clamp → Enable. Defeat the Multi-Armed Monster inside and take the buckle.

11. Rusted Spur

Effect: Ranged weapon damage +10%; cost — increased recoil.

Where: At the foot of a ladder in the Apartment Street sewer.

How to reach it: From the sewer safe room, go through the door numbered 1329, break the concrete wall on the right, and open the manhole with the Manhole Cover Key (found in the Town Hall Operations Office). The spur is at the bottom.

Back rooms, warehouses and service tunnels carry half the Downtown list. If a room looks like storage, search it. Player screenshot via Steam Community.

12. V Guitar Pick

Effect: The final hit of a melee combo deals 30% more damage.

Where: Union Apartments flooded basement, in the laundry room at the back.

How to reach it: Smash the cracked wall in the laundry room with the Sledgehammer to expose the hidden room. The pick is inside.

13. Sea Polished Glass Shard

Effect: Swimming uses much less stamina.

Where: In the Apartment 4B dream, on the beach to your left as you regain control.

How to reach it: Open apartment 4B (key is on the Union Apartments roof), turn off the bathtub tap, and defeat the Shapeless Monster in the flooded basement. When the dream sequence hands control back, walk left and pick the shard up off the beach.

14. 30 Days Sober Chip

Effect: Melee attacks use 30% less stamina.

Where: Town Hall basement, on the floor of the AA meeting room off the Gallery.

How to reach it: From the Gallery by the furnace room, smash the cracked wall with the Sledgehammer. The chip is on the floor inside.

15. Cracked Wrist Watch

Effect: Faster melee attacks, and +20% melee damage while Wounded or Critical.

Where: In the secret room off the Town Hall's third-floor hall.

How to reach it: Read the clock in the office — it shows 10:07. Climb out of the office window onto the roof and use the Crank Handle to set the big clock to match (10:07; a minute either side reportedly works). Back inside, pull the candlestick in the third-floor hall to open the secret room.

Riverside & the Sheriff's Office (4)

16. Badge 0013

Effect: The last shot before a weapon empties deals 25% more damage.

Where: Sheriff's Office morgue, Cold Storage — in the mouth of the drowned corpse in the drawer.

How to reach it: Open the cold storage drawer and pry the badge out with the Crowbar. The Crowbar is inside the station, in the Evidence Lockup, so search the office thoroughly first.

17. Snake Earring

Effect: Firearms fire 30% faster.

Where: On Deputy Roberts' body in the Sheriff's Office lobby, after the boss fight.

How to reach it: Before the fight, free the deputy from the holding cells (door code 3100 — Badge 0013 backwards) and play his tape in the Interrogation Room. The fight follows in the lobby.

18. Hula Figurine

Effect: Dodging uses less stamina.

How to reach it: Smash the cracked wall at the far left of the basement storage room with the Sledgehammer. The backpack is inside.

21. Damaged Compass

Effect: Run faster.

Where: In a large crate at Chuck Dock, on the small bank on the far western shore.

How to reach it: Bring the Sea Polished Glass Shard (Memento 13). Swim from the Church Hill docks to the far western shore and break the crate open.

22. Old Corsage / Bloody Corsage

Effect: Old Corsage — better weapon handling, reduced firearm recoil. Bloody Corsage — damage dealt +15%, damage received +10%.

Where: One dig spot in the Church Hill cemetery, by the wall.

How to reach it: Take the Shovel from the Digging Man's caravan in Downtown and dig the disturbed leaf patch by the cemetery wall. Which corsage comes up is decided earlier, in the Apartment 4B dream: NoobFeed reports that feeding the creature in the hole the Bird Effigy (combine the Bloody Feathers with the Black Flesh) leads to the Old Corsage, while feeding it the Injured Bird itself leads to the Bloody Corsage. You get one per playthrough, and either one counts toward the 25.

23. Red Driving Glove

Effect: Melee charge attack time −50%.

How to reach it: With the Stage 1 Key, shoot the vent at the upper left of Stage 1, climb through, and descend the ladder into Prop Storage. The trunk is down there.

The only way up to Thelend is the cable car — five bells first. Player screenshot via Steam Community.

24. 8 Ball Gear Shift

Effect: Increases maximum stamina; damage dealt +10%, damage received −10%.

Where: On The Driver's body, on the Stage 1 stage.

How to reach it: Fit the three projector lenses so the stage light turns red — Magenta and Yellow in, Cyan flipped up — to summon The Driver. Win the fight and loot the body immediately; this is the third missable boss drop.

25. Polaroid Negative

Effect: Every projectile has a 20% chance to pierce through its target.

Where: After the final boss, to the right of the phone, past the gate in the red-door nightmare.

How to reach it: Drive all three Metal Spikes into the Strange Tree and defeat the final boss. The negative is on the ground by the phone — pick it up before you walk on.

The furnace question: do you burn them?

One claim follows the Memento hunt around, and it is not settled: that the Live ending involves burning your Mementos. Here is what is actually on record. The Xbox/Steam achievement for the ending is literally titled "Ending: Live — Burn it all." Two guide sites, Game Horizon and Bonus Action, report a specific sequence: spare Eddie, then take all 25 Mementos to a furnace in a small shack in the Outskirts, east of a man washing his hands in a puddle and west of Rodney's General Store, and burn them. Games.gg's endings guide instead ties Live to all 23 cassette tapes and sparing all three major bosses, saying the Mementos are required for the ending's "full completion" and can still be collected after the Eddie encounter. NPC Tips likewise states the Live ending asks for every Memento, with either corsage counting.

What the sources agree on: collecting all 25 Mementos is tied to the Live ending's full completion, whichever mechanic sits on top of it. Whether the furnace step is required, optional, or a garbled version of the "Burn it all" achievement text is disputed. Practical advice that holds under every account: finish the full set before the finale, and keep a manual payphone save before you commit to the ending sequence.

FAQ

How many Mementos are in Silver Pines? 26 exist in the game, but the collection goal is 25: the Old and Bloody Corsages share one dig spot, and a single playthrough yields only one of them. Either counts.

How do I equip more than one Memento? Find Memento Vessel Shards inside the wind-chime bird figurines. Four shards make a Vessel; using it adds a slot. Five slots is the maximum, from 16 shards.

Which Mementos can I miss permanently? The three boss-body drops: Corroded Iron Ball (tunnel boss), Snake Earring (Deputy Roberts) and 8 Ball Gear Shift (The Driver). Loot each body before leaving. The Chipped Ceramic Bear is tied to the Rabbit Hole sequence — search the gift-shop basement room on your way back through it.

What is the best early Memento? The Empty Matchstick Box (25% faster reloads, Miner Diner basement) arrives first and helps every gun you own. The Smooth Stone With A Hole (+20% headshot damage) is the strongest single pickup for firearm builds once you reach Downtown.

Do I need all 25 before the ending? For the Live ending's full completion, guides agree the full set is required, and games.gg reports Mementos can still be gathered after the Eddie encounter before you commit. Finish the set on your main sweep anyway — it is cheaper than a cleanup lap.
