Inside the Quiet Hours Cafe in Downtown sits a bird cage that was never meant to hold a bird. Its front carries three sockets, coloured red, yellow and silver, and it opens only when all three matching Bird Statuettes are slotted in. None of the statuettes is in the cafe. One waits in the veterinary clinic, one in the movie theater, and one at the top of a ladder on the far edge of town. The prize inside the cage is the Smooth Stone With A Hole Memento. Here is where each bird is, in the order most players will naturally collect them.

The cage itself

You will probably spot the cage on your first pass through Downtown, long before you can open it. That is fine. The sockets are colour-coded and the puzzle keeps your progress: slot a statuette the moment you have it, and the cage remembers. There is no timer, no reset, and no penalty for completing it in pieces across several visits.

The cage itself, examined up close in the Quiet Hours Cafe: the three sockets at the base are ringed in red, yellow and silver-grey, and the prize — the round stone — is visible inside behind the bars. Frame from the Silver Pines full-collection playthrough by 友利奈绪大魔王丶 (Bilibili).

Red Bird Statuette — the veterinary clinic

The Red Bird is the closest of the three. Go into the Friendly Paws Veterinary Clinic on the main road through Downtown and head to the right side of the room. The statuette sits on a moving medical trolley — a survivor barricaded inside the clinic slides it out to you on the cart. Take the bird, walk it back to the cafe, and slot it into the red socket on the same trip if you are passing.

Yellow Bird Statuette — the movie theater

Head to the Movie Theater (past the Riverside road sign) and check the front counter in the lobby. The Yellow Bird Statuette is sitting on it, in plain sight. This is the only one of the three with no mechanism attached at all — if you walked through the lobby without looking at the counter, you walked past it.

Silver Bird Statuette — the ladder and the nest

The Silver Bird is the expedition. From Downtown, head northwest past The Rabbit Hole Bar and Restaurant toward the caravan area, and do these steps in order:

  • Talk to the digging man by the caravan. (He matters again much later in the game; this is your introduction.)

  • Drop down the ledge past him and climb up the far side.

  • Look up. A ladder is held in place above you by a padlock.

  • Shoot the padlock with your handgun. The ladder drops.

  • Climb to the top and take the Silver Bird Statuette from the bird's nest.

Opening the cage

With all three birds in hand, return to the Quiet Hours Cafe and place each statuette into the socket of its own colour — red into red, yellow into yellow, silver into silver. Any birds you slotted on earlier visits are already in place. The cage opens as soon as the third one lands. Take the Smooth Stone With A Hole, an equippable Memento with its own passive effect (see our Memento locations guide for what it does and where it fits a build).

Slotting a bird is an inventory action: examine the cage, then use the statuette from your grid — here the Red Bird Statuette, described in the item panel simply as a small bird statue. Frame from the Silver Pines full-collection playthrough by 友利奈绪大魔王丶 (Bilibili).

FAQ

Is there a required order for the statuettes? No. The sockets are independent. Most players take Red first (it is a two-minute detour), Yellow second, and Silver last because it is the only one that needs a tool and a walk.

Can I slot the statuettes one at a time? Yes, and you should. The cage keeps partial progress, so every pass through the cafe is a chance to bank a bird.

Is the reward missable? The cafe stays open and the cage keeps its state, so the puzzle can be finished whenever you complete the set. The Memento itself counts toward the game's collectible totals.

The padlock won't break. What am I doing wrong? Aim at the padlock itself, not the ladder, and use the handgun. A couple of clean hits drop it.
