Prime Assets are the Ex-Pop at the top of the food chain: named, themed, and built to hunt you for an entire trial, not just to guard one room. There are five of them, counted as five groups, and each one owns a set of trial environments the way a warden owns a prison. Learn their weapon, their trap, and the one counter that actually works, and a Prime Asset goes from a death sentence to a problem you can plan around. Treat them like ordinary enemies and they will teach you the difference.
Quick answer
Five groups: Phyllis Mother Gooseberry Futterman, Sergeant Leland Coyle, Franco Il Bambino Barbi, Otto and Arora Kress counted as one, and Liliya Bogomolova.
Every Prime Asset has a signature trap in its environments. Learn the trap before you learn the boss, because the trap hits you when the boss is not even in the room.
Not Prime Assets: Amelia Collier, The Biter, and The Jaeger. All three are important, and none of them belongs on this list.
One name is deliberately left out: Prescott Whitehorn appears in some wiki navigation as a Prime Asset, but no second source or official note confirms it, so it is not listed here.

|---|---|---|---|
Mother Gooseberry | Drill held by the Doctor Futterman puppet | Dual personality, aggressive narrow-corridor pursuit | Break line of sight, use doors and distance |

Otto and Arora Kress | Buzzsaw plus thrown poison vials | Nausea Traps and 360-degree vision | Antidote, or Heal Rig with Detox |

1. Mother Gooseberry: the puppet with the drill
Phyllis Futterman, known as Mother Gooseberry, is a disgraced former children show host with two personalities. The surface personality speaks in a false maternal voice. The other speaks through Doctor Futterman, a ventriloquist dummy modeled on her abusive father, and the dummy holds a drill. That is the weapon to respect: in narrow corridors she is extremely aggressive and hard to shake, and the drill punishes anyone who treats a hallway as a safe shortcut. The general approach is distance and doors. Let her come to a door you control, break line of sight, and move while she is still searching, rather than trying to outrun her down a straight corridor where she is strongest.
2. Sergeant Coyle: the baton, and the return
Sergeant Leland Coyle is the former sheriff with the electrified baton, and his grab plus shock combination is one of the harshest close-range punishments in the game. He was already a launch-era Prime Asset, and Season 7, Project Boneyard, brought him back as the lead threat of the Prison Farm environment, where the main trial asks you to kill the warden in exchange for freedom. That return matters for new players because it means Coyle is not a museum piece: he headlines current content. Against him, the rule is simple and unforgiving. Do not let him close distance for free. Every corner you turn without checking is a grab you volunteered for.
3. Franco Barbi: the first gun
Franco Il Bambino Barbi, son of a New Orleans mafia family, arrived with Season 1, Project Lupara, on July 16, 2024, alongside the Docks environment. He matters for a structural reason: he is the first Prime Asset to carry a gun, a short-barrel shotgun, which breaks the assumption that Prime Assets are melee-only. His blasts can briefly deafen you, which is worse than it sounds when sound cues are your early warning system. The counter is cover discipline. Open ground is his range; corners, doors, and broken sightlines are yours. If you can hear the shot, you are already in the wrong place, so move before the second one.
4. Otto and Arora Kress: two brains, one body, no blind spot
Otto and Arora Kress are conjoined twins, firstborn children of the industrial magnate Anton Kress, whose mother died after exposure to the fumes of his experiments. Otto, once a politician, now wields a buzzsaw. Arora, a brilliant chemist, throws poison vials. Because Arora faces the other way, the twins effectively have 360-degree vision: there is no safe side to sneak past. Red Barrels introduced them as the Season 4, Project Diarchy, Prime Asset on July 15, 2025, in the Shopping Mall environment, and official season material describes them as the most difficult Prime Asset the game had seen to that point. If Arora spots you, her vial forces you to stop and vomit, costing a health bar, and she throws mid-chase and reactively at sounds in the dark. The counters are specific, which is a mercy: an Antidote ends the vomiting, and the Heal Rig with its Detox upgrade counters the poison so you can keep sprinting. Watch the ceilings too. Their Nausea Traps hang overhead like noisemakers, except the dangling flasks hold Arora poison, and tripping one poisons you the same way a thrown vial does. A Jammer hack can turn a trap against nearby enemies, which is the one moment in this fight where the twins weapons work for you.
5. Liliya Bogomolova: the mannequin that moves
Sister Liliya Bogomolova, the Beloved of God, is a Russian orphan and Siege of Leningrad survivor turned messiah figure, and she is the stealthiest Prime Asset in the game. She arrived with Season 5, Project Messiah, in December 2025, stalking her cult compound in the Resort environment. Her method is ambush: she hides in plain sight among the identical mannequins scattered through a trial, stays perfectly still, and pounces when you get too close or turn your back. Her long-reach attacks immobilize you and force a struggle for your life, and when no prey is near she silently relocates through exit gates and sets up somewhere new. She is also the only Prime Asset that enters hiding spots, which removes the one refuge other Prime Assets respect. Community guides describe her as the fastest pursuer of the five, and her counter is detection, not speed. The Jammer Rig is the easiest way to find her, because its buttons react when you face the real Liliya. The X-Ray Rig works too: the real Liliya has all of her bones, while mannequins are missing one, such as an ankle or a hand. Check before you walk past a row of still figures. One of them is not a figure.
6. Three famous faces that are not Prime Assets
Amelia Collier is a protagonist figure, a test subject who escaped and turned against Murkoff, listed as a neutral character rather than a Prime Asset. Season 7.2 community event even centers on helping her. Do not count her as a sixth boss.
The Biter is a Season 7 Ex-Pop, a former forced-labor prisoner fitted with a mechanical jaw after self-harm protest. Dangerous, fast, and new, but not a Prime Asset.
The Jaeger, Henrietta Grubbs, is an Ex-Pop Specialist from Project Relapse who can detect hiding spots through walls. A specialist, not a Prime Asset.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Skinner Man a Prime Asset?
No. The Skinner Man is a Psychosis apparition that appears when your Sanity runs out. It is covered separately in the Ex-Pop guide, not here, because it is not a trial boss at all.
Which Prime Asset should a new player learn first?
Coyle, because he appears early and returned to headline Season
7. Learning his grab range and door discipline transfers to every other Prime Asset, while Liliya and the Kress twins demand counters you may not own yet.

Name note: the Steam store pages, including the Simplified and Traditional Chinese pages, still show the English title The Outlast Trials, and no official Chinese name has been verified. Chinese-speaking players commonly use the Chinese community name, but that is a community name, not an official one.
