Voidtrain players have until 17:00 UTC today, October 19, to claim the Big Catch DLC for free and keep it permanently. The fishing expansion launched on October 12 at a regular price of $7.99 and has been free as part of the HypeTrain publisher sale; the DLC store page on Steam lists the offer as free to keep when claimed before that deadline, which is 01:00 on October 20 in Beijing. From the morning of October 19, that leaves a window of under 16 hours.

What Big Catch adds
Big Catch answers an obvious question with a straight face: how do you fish in the Void, a place with no water? HypeTrain Digital, which develops and publishes Voidtrain, treats the Void as stocked anyway. The DLC lets players catch different species of fish and earn a currency called Scales for every one reeled in. Rods and reels can be upgraded, and familiar resources from the base game serve as bait, so fishing plugs into the same scavenging loop as the rest of the survival crafting shooter.
Scales buy more than tackle. The official announcement says the currency also pays for new decorations for your train: Big Catch adds a new theme for walls and cabins plus several interior items, and any Scales left over after the upgrades and rewards are unlocked can be spent on reward bags of different tiers, stocked with extra resources. Groups get a competitive angle as well. A fishing leaderboard tracks who catches best among friends, which turns the quietest activity in the game into one more thing to argue about in co-op.
The claim, the catch, and the base game maths
Claiming takes one step: open the Big Catch page on Steam and add it to your account before the window closes. Two details separate this from a free weekend. The DLC is free to keep, so a claimed copy stays in your library after October 19, and the deadline is attached to the DLC offer itself, not to the publisher sale, which continues to October
26. The one requirement is ownership of the base game. The DLC page states plainly that it requires Voidtrain on Steam in order to play. Players who already own Voidtrain should claim now and ask questions later; the download can wait.
For everyone else, the same sale softens the entry price. Voidtrain is 50% off at $14.99, down from $29.99, until the publisher sale ends on October
26. Buying the base game today and claiming the DLC before 17:00 UTC gets both pieces for $14.99 in total. Waiting a week reverses the maths: the base game returns to $29.99 and Big Catch to its $7.99 list price, a combined $37.98. The base game itself left Early Access on November 7, 2025, so new players are buying a finished survival crafting FPS about a crew crossing the Void on an interdimensional train, with the fishing bolted on free if they move today.
Our take
Free-to-keep DLC in launch week is the friendliest version of this promotion, and HypeTrain has run the same play with earlier Voidtrain packs, according to coverage of those releases. The short window is the cost: the offer was announced on October 12 with a this-week framing, and anyone who reads about it on October 20 will find the price back at $7.99. Owners of the base game have no decision to make, since claiming costs nothing and the content waits in the library. For the curious, $14.99 for the base game with the DLC included is the cheapest complete entry Voidtrain has offered, and the fishing, decorations and leaderboard give returning crews a reason to run the train again before the sale ends.
