Charting the Unknown adds 7 Steam achievements to Crimson Desert, and none of them belong to the base game. Three come from new story quests, four from new challenge families: voyages, swimming, management, and the Garden of Trials. Around those achievements sits a separate collecting game in the DLC ocean: sunken ruins, treasure chests, treasure maps, underwater mounts, and two glowing swords. This guide covers only that DLC side, and keeps it apart from the base game throughout.
At a glance
DLC achievements: 7, all non-hidden, from the official Steam schema for app 3321460, checked November 3, 2026.
Total with DLC:
41. Base game alone:
34. Do not mix the two totals.
Requirement: Charting the Unknown DLC, $24.99, released October 29,
2026. Base-game progress alone unlocks nothing here.
Gates differ per family: story and Garden of Trials need the main story finished; voyages need Howling Hill and a ship; swimming needs no quest.
Not covered here again: DLC overview, shipbuilding, and diving mechanics each have their own guides.
1. The 3 story achievements: finish the main story first
All three DLC story achievements require the main story to be finished, after which the quests start from the Journal menu. That gate is consistent across DLC unlock guides. The three quests belong to the three playable protagonists, one each.

| Achievement | Official requirement | Quest and owner |
|---|---|---|
Dawn Politician | Complete the From the Ashes quest | From the Ashes, Damiane storyline, after the main story |
Charter | Complete the Beyond the Margins quest | Beyond the Margins, Kliff storyline, after the main story |
Forger of Tomorrow | Complete the Forged Resolve quest | Forged Resolve, Oongka storyline, after the main story |
Do not confuse these with the base story achievements. Novice Adventurer, Protector of Pailune, and Expert Storyteller belong to the base campaign; Dawn Politician, Charter, and Forger of Tomorrow belong only to the DLC storylines that open after that campaign ends.
2. The 4 challenge achievements: different gates
The four challenge families are where players most often get stuck on gates rather than difficulty. Voyages need a ship, which needs the Howling Hill camp and the shipbuilding questline. Swimming needs no quest at all, only breath management. Management needs liberated regions and camp infrastructure. The Garden of Trials needs the main story finished and a visit to the Axiom Archive in the Abyss, according to DLC unlock guides.

| Achievement | Official requirement | Unlock gate |
|---|---|---|
Over the Horizon | Complete all voyage challenges | Howling Hill camp, then the shipbuilding questline and a ship |
Deep-sea Wanderer | Complete all swimming challenges | No quest gate. Diving needs only breath management and a diving suit helps |
Management Tycoon | Complete all management challenges | Liberated regions and camp infrastructure for leased facilities |
Trial by Flower | Complete all garden of trials challenges | Main story finished, then the Axiom Archive in the Abyss |
3. Ocean treasures: sunken ruins, chests, and maps
The DLC ocean holds sunken ruins, treasure chests on the seabed, new resources, and new creatures and mounts. Diving itself has no quest gate: walk into the Great Ocean of Pywel and dive, with the breath gauge as the limit, and refine the diving suit to stay down longer. That is the collecting loop at its simplest: sail out, dive down, search ruins and wrecks, surface with treasure and resources.
Treasure maps are the second layer. DLC coverage reports treasure maps scattered across the world, and notes that finishing the base-game hidden treasure map is worth doing before heading to sea. Treat map pieces as leads to follow when found, not as a checklist with a published total: no official total for DLC map pieces has been published, so this guide prints none.
4. The Lumen swords and their upgrade materials
The DLC introduces two glowing swords, and they come from different activities, so do not hunt one in the place of the other. Guide reports place the standard Lumen Sword in an underwater treasure chest in the Forgotten Ocean Ruins, reached in a diving suit, while the two-handed Lumen Longsword is awarded through the Garden of Trials. The chest location and the Garden reward are guide-reported, not officially published, so treat the Forgotten Ocean Ruins as the lead and the Garden as the second sword source.
Upgrading the Lumen Sword uses underwater materials, also guide-reported: Shiny Ore from crystal deposits on underwater rock formations and the ocean floor, broken with Axiom Force, and Natural Pearls from giant clams on the seabed. Collect both while exploring the Forgotten Ocean Ruins area instead of making a separate material run later.
5. Underwater mounts and sea life
Underwater mounts follow the same trust rule as land mounts: raise Trust, then register. Aggressive species are subdued, gentle species such as rays, turtles, and sunfish are fed, according to the diving guide. There is no official full list of underwater mounts and no confirmed Trust threshold, so this guide prints neither; the great white was the first underwater mount players registered on launch night, according to player reports.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the DLC for these 7 achievements?
Yes. All 7 require Charting the Unknown. The base game alone has 34 achievements; with the DLC the total is 41.
Can I start the DLC achievements before finishing the main story?
Partly. Swimming challenges have no quest gate, and voyages open after Howling Hill and shipbuilding. The three story achievements and the Garden of Trials need the main story finished.
Where do I find the Lumen Sword?
Guide reports place it in an underwater treasure chest in the Forgotten Ocean Ruins, reached in a diving suit. The two-handed Lumen Longsword comes from the Garden of Trials instead.
Do DLC treasures count toward base collectibles?
No. DLC ocean treasures, mounts, and swords are a separate collecting game. They do not progress base secret place, ruins, or sealed artifact challenges.
