Cyberpunk 2077 Endings and Key Choices Guide: All Endings, Spoiler Levels, and the Secret Ending
Guide chapters14 chapters

Cyberpunk 2077 has five main endings, and only two decisions at the end of the game choose between most of them: who you ask for help, and who keeps V’s body in the end. Everything else in this guide is preparation for those two choices, and it is organized so you can stop reading before any spoiler you do not want. Read sections 1 to 3 for the spoiler-free version. Sections 4 and 5 name names, places, and outcomes, and are marked as spoilers.

Every ending starts from the same rooftop conversation. What changes is who you called before it, and what you decide after it. Community screenshot.

Quick answer

  • Spoiler-free count: five main endings in the base game, plus one premature ending you can choose at any point on the rooftop, plus The Tower from Phantom Liberty.

  • The two decisions that matter most are made at the point of no return mission, Nocturne Op55N1: your ally, and the final choice about V’s body.

  • The secret ending, (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, requires a high relationship with Johnny and specific Johnny side jobs finished before the point of no return. Its details are in the spoiler section only.

  • There is no New Game Plus. After an ending, the game returns you to the point of no return so you can try another path from a save.

  • Achievement count, for completionists: achievement lists give 44 base-game achievements and 13 Phantom Liberty achievements, 57 in total.

1. Spoiler-free: how the ending system works

Think of the ending as a funnel, not a branching tree that splits all game long. For most of the story, your choices change relationships, dialogue, and which side jobs are open, but they do not lock you into one ending. The funnel narrows at the end: you reach a rooftop conversation, you choose who helps you with the final assault, you play the assault, and then you make a final choice about the body. That is why a player who skipped side jobs can still finish the game, but cannot access every ending: some ally options only exist if you did that ally side-job chain first.

2. Spoiler-free: the choices to make before the point of no return

Three preparations cover almost every ending, and none of them requires you to know the plot. First, finish the side-job chains of the people you might want as allies, because an ally you never helped cannot be called. Second, pay attention to Johnny: the secret ending is gated on your relationship with him and on finishing his side jobs, and the game does not hand you a meter that says you are ready, so finish his chain rather than guessing. Third, save before the point of no return. The game warns you, and that save is your ticket to every other ending without replaying the whole game.

  • Finish ally side-job chains before Nocturne Op55N1, or those ally options will not appear.

  • Finish Johnny side jobs (Tapeworm, Chippin’ In, Blistering Love) if you want the secret ending to be possible at all.

  • Keep a manual save at the point-of-no-return warning. One save, all endings, no full replay.

  • Do not worry about lifepath for endings: your origin changes the opening and some dialogue, not which endings exist.

3. Spoiler-free: which ending should you pick first

There is no canon ending and no best ending that the game enforces, and guides that rank one as objectively best are ranking a feeling, not a mechanic. The honest way to choose a first ending is by what you want the last hours to feel like: the ending whose ally you most trust, and the final body choice you can live with. Play that one first, then use your point-of-no-return save for the others. The spoiler section below explains what each named ending actually contains, so stop here if you want your first ending to surprise you.

4. SPOILERS: all endings and how to unlock each

Spoiler warning: this section names endings, allies, and outcomes. The five main base-game endings are The Devil, The Star, The Sun, Temperance, and the secret (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. The Devil comes from accepting Hanako Arasaka deal and working with Arasaka. The Star comes from calling Panam and the Aldecaldos. The Sun comes from calling Rogue. Temperance is not a separate ally path: it is the epilogue variant you get on the Star or Sun path when you give the body to Johnny at the final choice. The premature ending, Path of Least Resistance, is chosen on the rooftop itself by ending V life early, and it ends the game without the final assault. Phantom Liberty adds The Tower, reached through the expansion finale rather than the rooftop, and it wraps up the whole game in a different way from the base endings.

EndingAlly and final choice (spoilers)

The Devil

Accept Hanako deal; V keeps the body in the Arasaka route

The Star

Call Panam and the Aldecaldos; V keeps the body and leaves with them

The Sun

Call Rogue; V keeps the body and becomes a Night City legend

Temperance

Star or Sun path, but give the body to Johnny at the final choice

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper (secret)

See section 5; V storms the tower solo, and no ally crew is risked

Path of Least Resistance (premature)

Choose to end it on the rooftop; no final assault, no epilogue mission

The Tower (Phantom Liberty)

Reached through the expansion finale; a different resolution from the base endings

5. SPOILERS: the secret ending, step by step

Spoiler warning, continued. To unlock (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, finish Tapeworm, Chippin’ In, and Blistering Love before Nocturne Op55N1, and raise your relationship with Johnny to at least 70%. The Chippin’ In dialogue matters: players who follow Johnny-friendly answers, including inscribing Johnny initials and agreeing to call Rogue, report the clearest path to the threshold, and the game does not show you a live percentage, so do the full chain rather than trusting a single dialogue choice. On the rooftop, when the ally options appear, do not pick any of them. Wait about five minutes without selecting. Johnny will then offer the solo run. Take it, and be ready: this is the hardest version of the final assault, with no ally crew to absorb damage, so bring your strongest build, your best weapons, and healing, and do not attempt it under-levelled as a first ending.

The final choice is about who walks away in V’s body, not about which tower you climbed. Decide it before the rooftop, not during it. Community screenshot.

6. Key choices that do not change the ending count

Two misunderstandings cost players the most time. First, romance does not create a new ending: it changes who is present in your epilogue and some dialogue, but the ending you get is still decided by ally and final body choice. Second, most mid-game moral choices do not add or remove endings either: they change who lives, who trusts you, and which side jobs stay open, which is exactly why the ally side-job chains matter more than any single dialogue line. If you want a different ending, change the ally or the final choice, not a random conversation from Act 2.

Allies are earned in side jobs, not chosen on the rooftop. The rooftop only reveals what you already built. Community screenshot.
Leaving Night City is one ending, not the only ending. The choice is about who you leave with, and in whose body. Community screenshot.
The Aldecaldo path is earned through Panam side jobs, not through a single rooftop line. Do the chain first. Community screenshot.
An ending is a destination for a relationship, not a reward for a level. The desert ending belongs to the ally you trusted most. Community screenshot.
Save before the point of no return, then let your first ending be the one you actually want, not the one a guide ranked highest. Community screenshot.

FAQ

Can I see all endings on one character?

Yes. Keep a save at the point-of-no-return warning, finish one ending, then reload that save and choose a different ally or final choice. There is no New Game Plus, so the save is the system.

What if I did not do Johnny side jobs?

You can still finish the game and get the Devil, Star, Sun, and Temperance endings, but the secret ending will not be offered. Reload an earlier save and finish his chain, or accept that this playthrough skips the secret path.

Does Phantom Liberty change the base endings?

It adds The Tower as a separate resolution reached through the expansion finale. It does not rewrite the five base endings or their unlock conditions.

Is the premature rooftop ending a real ending?

It is a real game ending in the sense that it ends the story and rolls credits, but it skips the final assault and has no epilogue mission. Treat it as a narrative choice, not as a shortcut to completion rewards.
