The most useful clue is what happened before the sickness icon. Ordinary raw or rotten meat, fat and guts can transmit Salmonellosis. Eating or drinking with bloody bare hands can also cause it, as can shared contaminated food/water or infected blood. Current vanilla references also keep an important predator exception: cooked Wolf Steak and Bear Steak can still carry Salmonellosis risk.
Salmonellosis is the raw ordinary animal-food and bloody-hands branch

| Recent exposure | More likely branch |
|---|---|
Unsafe pond/stream/found container water + fever/dehydration | Cholera |
Raw/rotten ordinary meat, fat, guts; bloody hands; cooked wolf/bear steak | Salmonellosis |
Raw fish, burned/rotten food, gasoline, Unknown Food Can | Food Poisoning |
Dirty dressing / untreated bleed | Wound Infection |
Do not confuse this with current raw-fish rules. Since the 1.26 food rebalance, raw fish is treated under Food Poisoning rather than the old Salmonellosis assumption. That difference matters because both illnesses may involve vomiting, but the surrounding clues and recovery path are not identical.
Symptoms: why vomiting is not enough
Salmonellosis can produce vomiting after the survivor eats or drinks too much, pain noises, brief blurred/throbbing vision and Health damage as it progresses. Cholera can also vomit and dehydrate; Food Poisoning can vomit and slow stamina recovery. The better diagnosis uses both symptom pattern and exposure.
Treatment: Charcoal is the direct medicine
Use Charcoal Tablets for Salmonellosis. Multivitamins are another supported route because they temporarily raise immune strength. Tetracycline is not the direct Salmonellosis treatment; wasting antibiotics while continuing the same contaminated food or hand behavior leaves the real cause in place.
Like Cholera, Salmonellosis can punish large meals. Use small bites and sips while recovering so vomiting does not erase the resources you just consumed. If Charcoal is working but you immediately eat the same risky food again, the run can loop back into sickness.
Raw fish is a useful diagnostic trap
Not every raw animal product causes Salmonellosis: raw fish belongs in the Food Poisoning branch. If the recent exposure was raw fish and the survivor becomes fatigued and starts vomiting, Charcoal is still useful, but the diagnosis should not be labeled Salmonellosis simply because the food came from an animal.
Prevention loop
• Wear gloves when skinning/quartering when possible.
• If hands become bloody, wash them before eating or drinking directly.
• Cook ordinary meat/fat/guts before normal consumption.
• Do not assume cooked wolf/bear steak is guaranteed safe.
• Do not share partly consumed food/water with an infected survivor.
• Remove the suspect food instead of “testing one more bite.”
Common mistakes
• Taking Tetracycline just because the sickness icon appeared.
• Calling every vomiting case “Salmonella.”
• Treating raw fish as the same current disease branch as raw ordinary meat.
• Cooking meat correctly but eating it with bloody hands.
• Curing the illness and then finishing the same contaminated portion.
