Ancient Spires, Flame Shrines, and Sanctums are the three systems that turn Enshrouded's huge map into something you can actually navigate and complete. Spires give you fast travel and reveal nearby landmarks, Shrines and Sanctums are the region-completion hunt that feeds achievements, and Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells, which Spires help you find, give the exploration skill points that let you finish your build. This guide explains how all three systems connect, lists every Spire location verified for 1.0, and gives a region-by-region approach for Shrines and Sanctums.

A note on the Spire count: 10 in 1.0, not 8

Older guides list 8 Ancient Spires, and that count appears in some pre-1.0 material. For 1.0, the verified count is 10 spires across 8 regions: the Springlands and Cinder's Cradle have 2 each, and every other region with a spire has

1. The two additions that explain the difference are the Blackmire Spire, counted inside the Revelwood stretch, and the two Cinder's Cradle spires added with the endgame region. If a guide you are reading says 8, it is almost certainly using an older count, and it will be missing the endgame spires. This guide uses the 1.0 count of 10 throughout.

What an Ancient Spire does

Ancient Spires are towering stone structures found throughout Embervale, and conquering one does two jobs at once. The game's own description covers both: scale Ancient Spires and speak to the Flame atop to reveal important landmarks on your map, since Spires unveil the location of Elixir Wells and Flame Sanctums, and they also function as fast travel points once conquered. Open your map and select the Spire marker to fast travel back. Once you finish a climb, a second message spells out what you have earned: by climbing the Spire, you have unlocked the ability to fast travel there, and you can also reveal information about the surrounding area if you talk to the Flame atop the Spire.

Spires are also launch pads. Because they are so tall, they are ideal takeoff points for gliding to critical locations below, which is why experienced players fast travel to a Spire and glide out rather than walking the whole route. Bring a ranged weapon, because ranged tools are needed for many tower puzzles, and expect each Spire to combine enemies, traps, and puzzle mechanics rather than being a simple climb. Inside, look for the pattern the Springlands Spire teaches early: glowing pads that carry you between floors, buttons that open locked doors, and grapple rings that swing you across gaps.

All 10 Ancient Spire locations in 1.0

Distances below are measured from the closest named place on the map, following the verified 1.0 location list. Where a quest leads to a Spire, the linked quest is named, because following the quest is usually easier than hunting the tower blind. Where no quest is listed, the Spire is found by exploration, and the landmark distance is your best guide.

Two early Spires deserve a special note because they shape the whole early game. The Springlands Spire, just north of where you begin, is the first fast travel point most players earn, and its quest objective is simply to reach the Ancient Spire in the Springlands. The Low Meadows Spire, east of the Springlands near the southern edge of the map, requires Flame level 2 and sits past a Shroud Root, which makes it a good early test of whether you understand Shroud Roots and Flame gating. Do not skip it just because no quest points at it: its fast travel point covers the southern map in a way no other early Spire does.

Flame Shrines and Sanctums: what they are

Flame Shrines and Sanctums are scattered points of interest tied to the Flame itself, and finding all of them in a region earns that region's Spark achievement, for example Spark of the Springlands for the Springlands, Spark of the Revelwoods for Revelwood, and so on through Spark of the Albaneve Summits and Spark of the Veilwater Basin. There is no Flame Shrine achievement for Cinder's Cradle, and Blackmire has no region achievements at all, so the Spark set runs through the six regions that have one. These are consistently the hardest achievements in every region: Spark of the Springlands sits at only 2.4% of players, and later Spark achievements drop below 1%, because shrines and sanctums are easy to walk past and hard to sweep for later.

This guide deliberately does not print a full shrine-by-shrine coordinate list, because exact shrine counts and coordinates per region have not been verified to a standard worth printing as fact, and a wrong coordinate is worse than an honest system guide. What is verified, and what will actually get you the achievements, is the system and the approach: Spires reveal Flame Sanctums on your map, so conquer the region's Spire first; then work outward from the Spire, checking every revealed marker before you leave the region; and treat shrines as a do-it-now task rather than a come-back-later task, because return sweeps are where most Spark achievements are lost.

How Spires, Shrines, Roots, and skill points connect

The connection is the reason this guide covers Spires and Shrines together. Conquer a Spire, and it reveals Elixir Wells and Flame Sanctums nearby. Clear an Elixir Well by defeating its guardian and destroying its Shroud Root, and you earn rewards, experience, and progress toward region completion. Do that across the map, and the skill points add up to something build-defining: leveling from level 2 to 50 gives 98 skill points, and clearing Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells gives 114 exploration skill points, for 212 points at full exploration at level

50. In other words, the shrine hunt and the root hunt are not side content for completionists only; they are how you afford a finished build.

Region-by-region approach

  • Springlands: conquer the Springlands Spire and the Low Meadows Spire early, then clear shrines and sanctums while the region is still your home base, when travel is shortest.

  • Revelwood and Blackmire: follow Reclaim The Wilderness to the Revelwood Spire and Follow The Melody to the Blackmire Spire, then use both as glide launch pads for the forest shrine hunt.

  • Nomad Highlands: conquer the Highlands Spire, then work the open ground outward from it, since this region rewards systematic sweeping more than dungeon diving.

  • Kindlewastes: use the Kindlewastes Spire quest from the Hunter Assistant, then plan desert routes around fast travel, because long desert walks without a return point waste the most time.

  • Albaneve Summits: follow Ignite The Snowy Mountaintops to the Summits Spire, sort cold protection first, then hunt high-altitude shrines from the Spire as a base.

  • Veilwater Basin: follow A Lighthouse In Sunless Seas to the Basin Spire, then finish the split-gate region completely, since its Spark achievement is one of the rarest outside the endgame.

  • Cinder's Cradle: conquer the Citadel and Sky Islands Spires for high return points, then complete the region's Spire, mining, obelisk, and Shroud Root achievements, noting there is no Flame Shrine achievement here.

What counts toward Flame upgrades

Keep the systems straight, because they feed different things. Spires feed fast travel and map reveals, and reaching a region's Spire earns its stargazer achievement. Shrines and Sanctums feed Spark achievements and region completion, but they do not by themselves raise your Flame level. Flame levels rise from story boss heads and, for the step to Flame 10, the Broken Guard Of The North Crown relic, plus regional materials and rescued Survivors. Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells feed skill points and region completion, and clearing your first Elixir Well earns the Well done achievement. Confusing these tracks is how players end up hunting shrines while wondering why their Flame has not moved: shrines complete the region, bosses raise the Flame, and both matter for different reasons.

Practical checklist before leaving a region

  • Spire conquered and Flame spoken to, so fast travel and reveals are active.

  • Every revealed Flame Sanctum visited, not just the ones on the main path.

  • Elixir Wells cleared and Shroud Roots destroyed, for skill points and region progress.

  • Obelisks read, since secret keeper achievements are easy to miss and hard to sweep for later.

  • Valuable materials mined, so the region's Mole achievement is not left to a return trip.

Done region by region, Spires, Shrines, and Sanctums stop feeling like a checklist and start feeling like the map itself. Conquer the tower, let it show you what is nearby, clear what it reveals, and move on only when the region is truly done. That is the whole method, and it is also the method that earns the stargazer, Spark, weeding, secret keeper, and Mole achievements without a single wasted return trip.
