Hunt for meat, hides and crafting materials first, and treat legendary animals as a long seasonal chase second: the free Wild Game update adds 15 legendary animals, each with a unique trophy and a wall decoration, but the spawn and timing rules for those animals come from a community guide rather than an official manual. Ordinary hunting stays the daily work, and legendary hunting rewards patience across seasons. Learn the weapons and the ordinary animals first, then plan the legendary hunt around seasons instead of rushing one spot.

Quick answer
Wild Game is a free update from 2026-09-22 that adds 15 legendary animals with unique trophies.
Every legendary rule in this guide is a community guide claim, not an official rule, and is labelled as such.
Community guide claim: at most 10 legendary animals on a map in one season, with new animals each season.
Kill, skin, then take the trophy: the trophy becomes a wall decoration or crafting material.
No legendary animal screenshots exist in this guide's image pool, so animal pictures here show ordinary hunting scenes only.
1. Ordinary hunting first: weapons, traps and game
Ordinary hunting supplies the village every season. The weapon list from the community wiki covers bows including Bow, Longbow and Recurve Bow, crossbows in Wooden and Iron forms, spears in Wooden, Stone, Copper, Bronze and Iron forms, plus close options such as the Cudgel and Throwing Stone. Arrows and bolts come in Stone, Copper, Bronze and Iron tiers. Pick the weapon that matches the animal and the distance, and carry a backup for a missed first shot.
Traps add a passive line of hunting. The wiki lists rat, rabbit and bird traps, which work while you do other village jobs. Traps suit small game near home, while bows and spears suit larger animals that need a planned approach. Use both lines together: traps for steady small returns, active hunts for meat and hides in bulk.
Ordinary game includes, among others, Rabbit, Pigeon, Duck, Crow, White-tailed Eagle, Hawk, Fox, Lynx, Badger, Deer, Moose, Boar, Wolf, Bear and Wisent, plus fish such as Perch and Pike. The word including matters here, because the wiki hunting table may not list every small creature, so treat this as a working list of common game rather than a closed catalogue. Learn one animal at a time: its habitat, its danger level, and the weapon that fits it.

| Weapon group | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
Bow | Medium range game | Arrow tier and shot placement |
Crossbow | Longer range shots | Reload time between shots |
Spear | Close and mid range hunts | Distance to dangerous animals |
Traps | Small game near home | Checking traps regularly |
2. Wild Game update: the official facts
The Wild Game update is official and free. It released on 2026-09-22 as version 2.7.0.2, with the official announcement titled The Hunt Begins. The headline addition is 15 legendary animals, and the official update log lists legendary animals, unique trophies of legendary animals, and legendary animal wall decorations as added content. From each legendary animal you best, you can claim a unique hunting trophy to decorate your home.
The update also touched the Exquisite Pack DLC with free added content alongside the release, and later patches fixed legendary related issues, including a fix so legendary animals no longer drop two trophies. The Hunting Set DLC, covered in the next guide in this column, is a separate paid pack whose outfits and weapons are crafted from legendary animal materials. Keep the two apart: Wild Game itself is free, while the Hunting Set pack is paid content built on top of it.
One more official framing point: legendary animals are a hunting goal, not a replacement for ordinary hunting. Meat, hides and daily food still come from ordinary game, traps and fishing, while legendary animals add trophies, decorations and rare crafting materials. A hunter who ignores ordinary game to chase legends will still face an empty storehouse.
3. Legendary animals: the community guide rules
Everything in this section is a community guide claim, not an official rule. The source is Steam community guide id 3805376884, an unrated guide, and the factpack confirms each claim below against that guide text only. Where the guide is silent or unclear, this guide says so instead of filling the gap. Read the numbers as a player made map of the hunt, and expect the game itself to be the final check.
According to the community guide, the 15 legendary animals are Badger, Bear, Boar, Crow, Deer, Duck, Eagle, Fox, Lynx, Perch, Pigeon, Pike, Wisent, Wolf black and Wolf white, which matches the official total of
15. The guide says legendary animals appear on both maps, Valley and Oxbow, and that a new game has no legendary animals in its first season, while an existing game sees its first legendary animals after the next season change. The update works with both existing and new saves, according to the same guide.
The guide also states season limits. In total, at most 10 legendary animals can be on the map in a season, and each season introduces four new legendary animals. Birds and mammals together cap at eight at any given time, with fish counted separately: two legendary fish spawn points appear at the start of a season, and fish can remain for at most two seasons. Each legendary animal remains active for 2 to 3 seasons before despawning, unless killed earlier.
The spawn point claim needs its ambiguity preserved. The guide says each legendary variant has 5 spawn points on both maps, and that those points cannot be seen on the map even with the animal spawn filter. The wording does not clarify whether that means 5 points in total across both maps or 5 points per map, and this guide does not resolve that ambiguity. After a kill at one point, that point stays empty for that species for at least 2 seasons, while it can appear at its other spawn points, so repeat hunts remain possible.

| Community guide claim | Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
Legendary animals total | 15 | Matches official total |
Max on a map per season | 10 | Community guide only |
Birds and mammals cap | 8 | Community guide only |
New per season | 4 | Community guide only |
Active lifespan | 2 to 3 seasons | Community guide only |
Spawn points per variant | 5, total or per map unclear | Wording ambiguous |
4. Trophies, decorations and crafting materials
The trophy flow, according to the community guide, runs kill, skin, then trophy. The trophy can be used directly from inventory to create a wall decoration, and it can also serve as crafting material for the matching weapon or outfit. When you swap a wall decoration, the trophy returns to inventory, and that return rule applies to legendary trophies only. Plan around that choice: a trophy on the wall is decoration, while a trophy spent on crafting is progress toward gear.
Collection takes seasons, not days, on the guide numbers. With perfect luck, the guide puts the minimum at 4 seasons to collect all 15 trophies, and at least 7 seasons to gather the repeat trophies needed for the full set of DLC outfits and weapons. Treat those as guide estimates for planning, not as guaranteed schedules: spawn luck, season length and hunting time all change the real pace.
One more guide claim links trophies to village mood. A legendary trophy used as a wall decoration counts toward the 20 decoration items per house that affect mood. That makes trophy placement a village decision as well as a personal trophy: decorate the houses whose mood needs help first, and keep the rarest trophies for the rooms you visit most.
5. A seasonal hunting plan that respects the limits
In a new game, spend the first season on ordinary hunting and village food, because the guide says the first season has no legendary animals. Learn the weapon you like, stock meat and hides, and scout the areas where ordinary game gathers. That groundwork is what lets you act fast when the first legendary season arrives.
From the second season on, check for legendary animals each season, and hunt the ones whose lifespan is ending first. An animal active for 2 to 3 seasons will despawn if ignored, so an old target outranks a fresh arrival. Keep ordinary hunting running in parallel, because legendary materials do not feed the village.
Do not camp a single spawn point. The guide says points are hidden and do not show on the map, and that a killed species stays away from that point for at least 2 seasons. Cover territory, rotate through known game areas, and use the season change as the reset that brings new animals. If a season ends with no legendary kill, the loss is one season of progress, not the whole hunt.
Gap note: no legendary animal screenshots exist in this guide's image pool, and the guide author identity could not be verified, which is why the whole legendary mechanism section is labelled as community guide claims. Species without a legendary version, according to the guide, are roach, moose, rabbit and hawk, so do not waste seasons hunting those for a trophy that the guide says does not exist.
