Phantom Blade Zero Patch 1.0302256 Is Live on Steam: Faster Startup and a Hua Nerf With a Strict Difficulty Limit

S-GAME's first post-launch patch for Phantom Blade Zero, version 1.0302256, is live on Steam at 3.7 GB. It speeds up PC startup with a new shader compilation process, adds hit sound options and PC Interact/Talk remapping, fixes progression and AMD hair issues, and reduces Hua's grab frequency only on Wayfarer and Pathbreaker.

Phantom Blade Zero Patch 1.0302256 Is Live on Steam: Faster Startup and a Hua Nerf With a Strict Difficulty Limit

S-GAME has shipped the first post-launch patch for Phantom Blade Zero. On Steam it is version 1.0302256, a 3.7 GB download that went live on November 4,

2026. It is a performance and polish patch first: faster startup on PC, new audio and key options, and a targeted change to one boss fight. It is not the day-one patch, and it does not change the hardest difficulties.

At a glance

  • Steam version: 1.0302256, live November 4, 2026; on PS5 the same update shows as 1.302.289, per MP1st.

  • Download size on Steam: 3.7 GB, per DSOGaming and WCCFTech. Do not confuse this with the day-one patch of about 5 GB.

  • Headline combat change: Hua, Deadly Betrothed uses grab attacks less often, but only on Wayfarer and Pathbreaker. Hellwalker and 66-day mode are unchanged.

  • Headline PC change: the shader compilation process is updated to significantly reduce startup times; ray tracing shaders are no longer compiled by default at startup.

  • Mod warning: S-GAME says some third-party mods are not compatible with this update and may cause issues. Ultra+ is a third-party mod, not official content.

Two patches, do not mix them up

Phantom Blade Zero launched on October 29, 2026, with a day-one patch of about 5 GB that S-GAME said significantly improves ray tracing and path tracing performance, alongside bug fixes. That patch was part of the launch itself. Patch 1.0302256 is the next step: the first update after the day-one patch, as MP1st puts it, and the first major post-launch update, as TheGamer puts it. The version numbers tell the story on their own. The day-one patch is not version 1.0302256, and 1.0302256 is not a reissue of the launch patch.

The rollout order is worth noting because reports landed on different days. The patch notes first appeared on WeGame, the Chinese PC platform, on November 3, and WCCFTech updated its report on November 4 at 05:11 UTC to confirm the patch was live on Steam. DSOGaming likewise reports the November 4 update as patch 1.0302256 on Steam, at 3.7 GB, with Steam downloading it the next time the client launches. If you saw the notes a day early on WeGame, you were reading the same patch, not a different one.

Performance first: faster starts on PC

The official patch notes open with performance, and the PC-specific items are the most concrete part of the patch. S-GAME says performance is improved in certain areas, and then gives PC players three specific fixes: an updated shader compilation process, less stuttering on Bluetooth controllers, and NVIDIA Reflex working when set to Auto with V-Sync enabled. For a game whose launch conversation was dominated by long shader compilation and stutter, the shader change is the one most players will feel first, because it targets startup itself rather than a single area.

The shader change has one wrinkle players should know before they panic at a loading screen. Ray tracing shaders will no longer be compiled by default at startup, which is what significantly reduces startup times. Players who previously had ray tracing disabled will need to recompile shaders on their first launch after installing this patch. S-GAME says this is a one-time process and should take only a short time. Players who previously had ray tracing enabled can start playing without recompiling, and if they enable ray tracing in the settings, the required shaders will be compiled separately the next time they restart the game. In short: one short recompile for one group, no recompile for the other, and no reason to treat that first launch as a new problem.

The Hua change, and exactly who it affects

The only named boss change in the patch notes is Hua, Deadly Betrothed. S-GAME writes, in full: Reduced the frequency of grab attacks used by Hua, Deadly Betrothed on Wayfarer and Pathbreaker difficulties. Other difficulty settings are unaffected. That sentence is the whole scope of the change, and it is worth quoting exactly, because every independent report repeats the same boundary. DSOGaming, MP1st, TheGamer, WCCFTech, and Push Square all agree: Wayfarer and Pathbreaker get the reduction, and nothing else does.

Vaagame text card: Hua grabs reduced on Wayfarer and Pathbreaker, unchanged on Hellwalker and 66-day mode.

Translated into difficulty names: Wayfarer is the easier story-first setting and Pathbreaker is the standard setting, and both are now more forgiving against Hua's grabs. Hellwalker, the hard setting, is untouched, and the 66-day mode is untouched as well. Push Square states the consequence plainly: on Hellwalker or the 66 Days modes, Hua will operate as she did before. So if you are playing on the hardest settings and Hua still grabs just as often, that is not a failed update. That is the patch working as written. S-GAME also says the combat behavior of certain other bosses and enemies, and the functionality of certain environmental mechanisms, have been adjusted, but it does not name them, and this article does not guess which ones.

New options: louder hits, remappable talk

The patch adds two audio options and one control option, all three drawn directly from the official notes. The audio settings gain Hit Sound Intensity and Hit Impact Sound Intensity, which let players tune how hard hits sound and feel through audio alone. On PC, players can now remap Interact / Talk for both keyboard and controller. That last item matters more than it looks: Interact / Talk is a button you press constantly, and until now PC players could not move it. TheGamer and WCCFTech both single out these additions as the patch's most player-facing new features, ahead of the less visible fixes below.

Around those options sit the feel changes. Weapon hit feedback is improved, the volume of certain sound effects and dialogue is adjusted, and weapon descriptions, certain skill descriptions, and controller button icons are updated. None of these is a balance overhaul on its own, but together they read as a pass over how the game sounds and reads moment to moment, which fits a first post-launch patch: fix what players touch every minute before reworking what they meet every hour.

Bug fixes: progression, getting stuck, and AMD hair

The bug fix list is short and general, and this article keeps it that way rather than inventing specifics S-GAME did not give. The official notes list fixes for issues that could prevent progression under certain conditions, environmental issues that could cause the player character to become stuck, various issues with cutscenes and visuals, and several combat-related issues. One fix is specific: an issue that caused character hair to render incorrectly on certain AMD graphics cards with specific driver versions. If your hair rendering looked wrong on AMD hardware, this patch names your problem. If your progression blocker was one of the unnamed ones, the honest statement is that S-GAME says such issues are fixed, without claiming your exact case was among them.

A separate note on mods, and on Ultra+

S-GAME closes the patch notes with a warning that belongs in any article about this update: Some third-party mods are not compatible with this update and may cause issues. If you encounter problems after updating, please remove any installed mods. That is the official position, and it matters because the same week brought heavy mod attention. WCCFTech's report on the patch also covers Ultra+, a mod it describes as bringing ray-traced ambient occlusion and path tracing improvements to the game. Ultra+ is a third-party mod, not official S-GAME content, and it is not part of patch 1.0302256. Do not read the two items as one release. The patch is official; Ultra+ is community work reported alongside it, and S-GAME's own warning is the reason to check mod compatibility before assuming a mod still works after updating.

Vaagame text card: third-party mods may break, Ultra+ is a third-party mod.

One more boundary for the record. This article makes no claim about the game's sales. Some coverage of the launch week repeats a sales figure, but no official S-GAME sales announcement was found for this article, so no sales number appears here. What can be said on the record is narrower and better sourced: the patch itself, its version numbers, its size on Steam, and its contents, all traced above to S-GAME's official notes and four independent reports that agree with them.

What to do after you update

For most Steam players there is nothing to do beyond letting the client download the 3.7 GB patch. If you had ray tracing disabled, expect the one-time shader recompile on first launch and let it finish. If you play with mods installed and something breaks, remove the mods first, as S-GAME advises, before reporting the game itself as broken. And if you are on Hellwalker or 66-day mode, do not wait for Hua to change: she will not, by design. The patch notes end where this article began, with S-GAME saying it will continue to monitor feedback and improve the game experience. The next patch, whenever it lands, will be judged against the same test this one passes: does it say exactly what changed, and does it change only that.
