The generic challenge-trails guide teaches the method: four trail families, a preparation checklist, and how to reset after a fail. This is the companion it points to: every one of the 23 named challenge trails, grouped by the five regions they sit in, with the vehicle or cosmetic each one unlocks and the Pebbles its first finish pays. Eighteen trails unlock vehicles and five give cosmetics, and the first-finish total across all 23 is 680 Pebbles. No checkpoint coordinates are copied here: the mapping projects hold those, and this is a route-selection checklist, not a turn-by-turn walkthrough.
At a glance
23 trails: 18 vehicle unlocks and 5 cosmetic rewards. The three starter vehicles, the Protector, the Trailrat and the Ding, need no trail.
First-finish total: 680 Pebbles. Repeat finishes pay a smaller amount, reported by one source at 3 to 8 Pebbles.
Regions: Canada holds Emerald Lake, Gimli Ridge and Asgard Mountain; Algeria holds the Aures Mountains and the Tassili n Ajjer Desert.
The in-game route display shows the reward before you start, so check the trail you are standing at against this table before you commit.

| Region | Country | Trails | First-finish total |
|---|---|---|---|
Emerald Lake | Canada | 3 | 80 |
Gimli Ridge | Canada | 5 | 145 |
Asgard Mountain | Canada | 5 | 155 |
Aures Mountains | Algeria | 5 | 155 |
Tassili n Ajjer Desert | Algeria | 5 | 145 |
The region totals add up cleanly: 80 plus 145 plus 155 plus 155 plus 145 is 680, the same total as counting the trails one by one. A natural route order follows the map itself: Emerald Lake first, then Gimli Ridge, which connects directly to Emerald Lake by ferry, then Asgard Mountain, and on to Algeria, where the Aures Mountains connect to the Tassili n Ajjer Desert through a tunnel. Objectives drive the unlock chain, so a trail passed in one region is also progress toward the next region, not just a payout.
Emerald Lake, Canada: 3 trails

| Trail | First-completion reward | First-finish Pebbles |
|---|---|---|
Hermit Trail | The Burro, vehicle | 40 |
Windy Joe Trail | The Trail Burner, vehicle | 25 |
Elizabeth Oath Trail | Kayaks and Kayaks (Bed), cosmetic | 15 |
Emerald Lake is where the trail game starts, and its three trails already show the whole spread: a 40-Pebble vehicle, a 25-Pebble vehicle and a 15-Pebble cosmetic. Hermit Trail is the one this column already has a completion banner for, and it pays the joint-highest first-finish figure in the game. Windy Joe Trail is widely treated as the earliest trail most players attempt, and it awards the Trail Burner. Elizabeth Oath Trail is the reminder that not every trail pays in vehicles: its bed cosmetic is still a first-finish reward worth ticking off, and it costs the same attempt as any other trail.
Gimli Ridge, Canada: 5 trails

| Trail | First-completion reward | First-finish Pebbles |
|---|---|---|
Fraser Research Boardwalk | Boat, Boat (Bed), cosmetic | 15 |
Windcall Gorge Trail | The Blast Wagon, vehicle | 25 |
Bridal Veil Falls Climb | The Brick, vehicle | 25 |
Elvis Rim Trail | The Polyana, vehicle | 40 |
Waddington Scree Trail | Das Rust Ox, vehicle | 40 |
Gimli Ridge is the first region where the trail count jumps, and its five trails split into two 40-Pebble vehicles, two 25-Pebble vehicles and one 15-Pebble cosmetic. The boardwalk trail in this set is the clearest example of the plank family from the generic guide: narrow timber over a gap, taken at crawling pace. The two climbs and the gorge trail are where the generic guide earns its keep, because chained families show up here first: a boardwalk into a rock step into a shelf is the shape of an area finale, and Gimli Ridge is where you first meet it.
Asgard Mountain, Canada: 5 trails
Swipe horizontally to view all columns.
| Trail | First-completion reward | First-finish Pebbles |
|---|---|---|
Blanshard Ridge Trail | The Bull v1, vehicle | 25 |
Asulkan Lake Highline | The Grand Woodman, vehicle | 40 |
Lower Midgar Trail | Das Mammoth, vehicle | 25 |
Midgar Ascent | The Timberbox, vehicle | 40 |
Wakefield Switchback Climb | Bald Eagle Horn, cosmetic | 25 |
Asgard Mountain matches the highest regional first-finish total at 155 Pebbles, and it hides the table trap: Wakefield Switchback Climb pays 25 Pebbles but its reward is a horn cosmetic, not a vehicle, so a reader counting vehicles from payouts alone would count one too many. The other four trails are all vehicles, including the Mammoth, the heaviest class of unlock in this region, and the Timberbox at the top 40-Pebble tier. If you are counting down to the full 18-vehicle set, Asgard Mountain contributes four of them.
Aures Mountains, Algeria: 5 trails

| Trail | First-completion reward | First-finish Pebbles |
|---|---|---|
Ukhtayn Route | The Tinny, vehicle | 25 |
Djebel Rahmani Ascent | Whip Lights - Pink, cosmetic | 25 |
Mahrouqa West Track | Das Lynx, vehicle | 40 |
Kalaa Ulya Track | The Roamer, vehicle | 25 |
Jazira Ascent | The Cumbre, vehicle | 40 |
The Aures Mountains also total 155 Pebbles on first finishes, and they hold the desert half of the game in miniature: sand, mesas and cliff shelves, where tyres and engine lead the upgrade order and water protection slides down. Jazira Ascent is the trail this column already has a completion banner for, and it awards the Cumbre at the top tier. One naming note: a route planner lists this region second trail as Djebel Rahmani Trail, while the trail tables agree on Djebel Rahmani Ascent, and this guide uses the table form. Its reward is pink whip lights, a cosmetic, not a vehicle.
Tassili n Ajjer Desert, Algeria: 5 trails
Swipe horizontally to view all columns.
| Trail | First-completion reward | First-finish Pebbles |
|---|---|---|
El Kalaa North Ascent | Das Wombat, vehicle | 25 |
La Cathedrale Climb | Wildcat Horn, cosmetic | 15 |
El Kalaa South Ascent | The Woodman, vehicle | 40 |
Tarfa Ascent | The Boar, vehicle | 25 |
Shabah Ascent | The Marshal, vehicle | 40 |
The Tassili n Ajjer Desert closes the set at 145 Pebbles, with four vehicles and one cosmetic. The two El Kalaa ascents frame the region: north pays 25 for the Wombat, south pays 40 for the Woodman, and the names are easy to confuse on a long drive, so check the route display before you start. Shabah Ascent awards the Marshal, the expedition-class unlock of this region, and Tarfa Ascent awards the Boar. With these five, the count closes: 18 vehicles and 5 cosmetics across 23 trails, and 680 Pebbles of first finishes, which is almost exactly the 675 Pebbles a fully upgraded vehicle costs.
How to use this table without fooling yourself
Check the reward in game before you start. The route display shows it, and a cosmetic trail attempted as a vehicle hunt is a wasted evening, not a failed run.
Do not read a payout as a difficulty rating. A 15-Pebble cosmetic trail can be a harder drive than a 40-Pebble vehicle trail; the payout is a reward tier, not an exam grade.
Trails do not expire, and leaving one is free. A trail that defeats clean driving is usually asking for an engine or tyre line you have not bought yet, so bank it, upgrade, and return.
Completion counts per player in co-op. Everyone drives their own truck over the line, even when the convoy shares spotting and winching.
FAQ
How many challenge trails are there? 23, across five regions: 3 in Emerald Lake and 5 in each of the other four regions.
How many vehicles do trails unlock?
18. The other 5 first finishes give cosmetics: two bed items, two horns and one set of whip lights.
What is the total first-finish payout? 680 Pebbles: 3 trails at 15, 11 at 25 and 9 at
40. That is 5 more than the 675 a fully upgraded vehicle costs.
Why are there no checkpoint maps here? Because exact checkpoint coordinates come from mapping projects this guide credits rather than copies, and per-trail pictorial walkthroughs need first-hand footage. This table is for choosing which trail to attempt and what it pays.
Do trails pay again on repeats? Yes, a smaller amount. One source reports 3 to 8 Pebbles per repeat, while another states exact repeat payouts are not established, so do not budget on the repeat figure.
