DayZ Motorbikes Guide: Jana 50 vs Bitrak 682, Handling, Fuel and Crashes

Update 1.30 adds two motorbikes to DayZ on every map: the Jana 50 moped at around 70 km/h and the Bitrak 682 enduro at around 130 km/h. They use a new two-wheel physics model with ragdoll crashes, carry no inventory, seat one rider only, and need fuel. This guide compares the two bikes, explains handling and maintenance, and notes what is still unconfirmed.

Guide chapters8 chapters

Motorbikes arrived in DayZ with update 1.30, and they are base-game content, not a Nasdara-only feature: both bikes come to every map. The Jana 50 is a slow, simple moped, while the Bitrak 682 is a much faster enduro bike. The trade-off is not just speed. Two wheels change how DayZ handles crashes, repairs, and carrying gear, and a fast ride can end in a ragdoll crash if you treat a bike like a car.

Quick answer

  • Pick the Jana 50 for short, careful trips; pick the Bitrak 682 when you need speed and can accept the crash risk.

  • A bike carries no inventory and seats one rider only, so it is transport, not a moving base or a taxi.

  • Careless high-speed riding can damage the spark plug, and crashes use ragdoll physics, so slow down before rough ground.

  • Bikes need fuel, are repaired with a blowtorch, and have replaceable tires and no separate battery.

At a glance

  • Game: DayZ, update 1.30 (launched October 15, 2026), base game, all maps

  • Bikes: Jana 50 moped and Bitrak 682 enduro

  • Top speeds: Jana around 70 km/h; Bitrak around 130 km/h (approximate figures from the Bohemia dev blog)

  • Riders and cargo: single rider, no passenger seat, no inventory space

  • Last verified: October 27, 2026

Desert streets and open ground are where the faster bike earns its keep.

The two bikes

Update 1.30 is free for all DayZ owners, and the motorbikes are part of that base-game update. That matters for planning: you do not need the paid Badlands DLC to ride, and you do not need to be in Nasdara to find or use a bike. The two models are built for different jobs, and the table below keeps the speed figures as approximations, exactly as Bohemia presented them.

The Jana 50 is the cautious choice. Its lower top speed leaves more room for error, and its fixed colors mean what you see is what you get. The Bitrak 682 is the speed choice, with removable cosmetic parts and mixable base colors, but speed on two wheels is also a risk multiplier: the faster you go, the less time you have to react to rough ground, obstacles, or a bad line.

Handling and physics

Bikes use a new two-wheel physics model, and crashes use ragdoll physics. In practice, that means a crash is not a gentle slide to a stop: the rider can be thrown, and injuries follow the fall rather than the vehicle absorbing the impact the way a car body might. Treat every unfamiliar stretch of ground as a reason to slow down, especially at Bitrak speeds.

There is no air control, so once a bike leaves the ground, the rider cannot steer it in the air. Ramps placed across Nasdara allow small jumps, and small is the operative word: use them for short hops, not for launching across gaps. Plan the landing before you hit the ramp, because you cannot fix a bad takeoff mid-air.

Maintenance: repair, tires, and the spark plug

Bikes are repaired with a blowtorch. Unlike cars, they have no separate battery to manage, and their tires are replaceable, so a damaged tire is a part to swap rather than a reason to abandon the bike. The part to watch is the spark plug: careless high-speed riding can damage it. That is a direct reason to ride fast only on ground you can read ahead, and to ease off rather than hold full speed through rough terrain.

Gap: bike spawn locations, fuel consumption rates, and repair material quantities are not confirmed in the factpack sources. Do not plan a route around a supposed guaranteed spawn, and do not assume a fuel range. Carry what you can on your person, refuel when you get the chance, and treat any spawn or consumption figure you see elsewhere as unverified unless it traces to an official source.

Limits: fuel, cargo, and passengers

A bike needs fuel, so a ride is only as good as its next refuel. A bike also has no inventory space at all: everything you move travels on your character, not on the bike. And there is no passenger seat, so a bike cannot carry a second player. If your plan needs two people, loot transport, or a base on wheels, a bike is the wrong vehicle, however fast the Bitrak 682 looks on paper.

One rider, no cargo space, no passenger seat. Pack for the rider, not for the bike.

Launch issues fixed in Hotfix 1

Hotfix 1, dated October 21, 2026, fixed motorbikes launching into the air on small objects and bridges, and fixed misconfigured bike headlights. If you rode at launch and remember bikes behaving strangely over small obstacles or bridges, that behavior was a launch bug, not the intended physics model. Note the framing: Hotfix 1 is dated October 21, and whether it is still the current stable build on all platforms at the time you read this is not confirmed here, so check the current patch notes if you are troubleshooting a fresh problem.

FAQ

Q: Which bike is faster, the Jana 50 or the Bitrak 682? A: The Bitrak 682, at around 130 km/h, against the Jana 50 at around 70 km/h. Both figures are approximate.

Q: Can a bike carry a passenger or loot? A: No. Bikes seat one rider only, with no passenger seat and no inventory space.

Q: How do I repair a bike? A: With a blowtorch. Tires are replaceable, and there is no separate battery to manage, unlike cars.

Q: Do I need the Badlands DLC to ride a motorbike? A: No. Motorbikes are base-game 1.30 content and come to every map, not just Nasdara.
