Update 1.30 and DayZ Badlands launched on October 15, 2026, on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The update itself is free for all DayZ owners; Badlands is a separate paid DLC and the base game is required. If you are returning after a break, the short version is this: every map got motorbikes, tougher infected, a new code lock, and a full wipe, while only Badlands owners get the new desert map Nasdara and its desert survival systems.
Quick answer
Update 1.30 is free for all DayZ owners; Badlands is a separate paid DLC.
Motorbikes, the Digital Code Lock, new infected attacks, and new character actions are in the free update on every map, not only in Nasdara.
Badlands adds Nasdara, a 267 km² arid province west of Chernarus, bordering Takistan, described by Bohemia as the largest terrain it has built for DayZ.
Launch came with a full wipe on all platforms, so returning players start fresh.
Badlands list price is approximately $24.99, but the launch-week 10% discount may have ended; check the store page for the current price.

Free 1.30 versus paid Badlands
The distinction matters because the two launched together and are easy to confuse. Update 1.30 was on Steam Experimental from September 16, 2026, and then launched as the free update for every DayZ owner. Badlands is the paid expansion that sits on top of it. You do not need Badlands to ride a motorbike, use the new code lock, or meet the changed infected; you do need it to enter Nasdara.

| Item | Free update 1.30 | Paid Badlands DLC |
|---|---|---|
Maps | Every map | Nasdara only |
Motorbikes | Yes: Jana 50 and Bitrak 682 | Same bikes, plus Nasdara ramps for small jumps |
Digital Code Lock | Yes, every map | Also available in Nasdara |
New diseases | No | Yes: silicosis, irritated eyes, heatstroke |
Sandstorms and rebuildable structures | No | Yes, in Nasdara |
A Hot and Cool Bundle pairs Badlands with Frostline for players who want both expansions. Switch 2 players should note a separate gap: the Switch 2 Cool Edition does not have Badlands yet, with Badlands planned for Q1
2027. Until then, Switch 2 runs Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal.
Every-map changes in 1.30
Motorbikes are the headline free feature. There are two: the Jana 50 moped and the Bitrak 682 enduro bike, with a new two-wheel physics model and ragdoll physics for crashes. Bohemia dev blog Week 84 puts the Jana at a maximum of around 70 km/h and the Bitrak at around 130 km/h; keep the word around, because those are approximate figures. The Jana comes in three fixed colors: blue, red, and yellow. The Bitrak has removable cosmetic parts, with base colors red, yellow, green, and blue that can be mixed.
Bikes are transport only: they have no inventory space, and each carries a single rider with no passenger seat.
Careless high-speed riding can damage the spark plug. Repair with a blowtorch; tires are replaceable; there is no separate battery, unlike cars.
There is no air control. Ramps placed across Nasdara allow small jumps.
Bike spawn locations, fuel consumption rates, and repair material quantities are unpublished gaps; this guide does not guess them.
Infected fights changed in a way returning players will feel immediately. Infected now use directional attacks, high, middle, and low, aimed by head height, so crouching or going prone no longer dodges hits as easily as before. They also have a new running heavy attack. Two new character actions arrive with 1.30: wash your face at water sources, and wet or wring out clothing. Rainwater barrel collection speed tripled, and more than 150 inventory icons were redrawn. New weapon color variants were added for the Mosin, SKS, and CR-527.
The new Digital Code Lock comes to every map with 1.30, not only Nasdara. Two technical notes matter for mod players: the navmesh file format changed in 1.30 and is not backward compatible, so terrain modders must regenerate files, and mods touching animations may break until updated. Launch also brought a full wipe on all platforms.
Hotfix 1, October 21, 2026
Hotfix 1 arrived on October 21, 2026, as console build 1.87 and PC build 1.30.164200. It fixed motorbikes launching into the air on small objects and bridges, misconfigured bike headlights, and missing dog hit sounds. It also fixed irrigation-tunnel water giving cholera, fixed Wash Face being offered before Drink at water sources, fixed an action-distance exploit, fixed infected and animal navigation inside rebuildable structures, fixed rebuildable-structure road, collision, and object-placement issues, and fixed a server crash. Whether Hotfix 1 is the current stable build on all platforms at the time you read this is a stated gap: it was the latest confirmed hotfix as of October 27, 2026, not a guarantee about later patches.
What Badlands adds in Nasdara
Nasdara is an arid province with a new arid spring season, which Bohemia presents as completing the seasonal cycle after autumn Chernarus, summer Livonia, and winter Sakhal. Bohemia puts the rebuildable count at over 5,000 houses, and wells and irrigation tunnels are rebuildable too. Preview coverage describes around 20 damaged-house variants, with mud versus stone as a cosmetic grouping, durability depending on restoration materials and prior damage, and a new trowel, brick, and mortar joining logs, planks, and metal sheets. Mixed construction is allowed, partial repair is allowed, clearing rubble yields some construction materials, and an openable inventory indoors is an early clue a structure is rebuildable. Present these as previewed mechanics: if launch changed anything, that is a stated gap, and rebuild material quantities per structure tier are unpublished.
Morse radio bunkers are a second signature system. Keep a personal radio with a charged battery switched on; broadcasts carry a bunker's coordinates and its access code in dots and dashes. Write both down, travel to the grid, and use the code at the entrance. The targets are officially urban bunkers in built-up areas, not military bases. Bunker count, exact locations, broadcast frequencies, rotation timer, and interior loot are all unpublished gaps.
Badlands also adds sandstorms, three new diseases (silicosis, irritated eyes, and heatstroke), and a large regional item set: the Lee-Enfield with a 10-round magazine and 1907 bayonet, the Luger with an 8-round magazine, the SCR16, and the MP-18 with a 32-round drum, plus golden variants of the revolver, sawed-off revolver, and KA-M with magazines, and new melee weapons including the Akina, doner knife, jambiya, police baton, and scimitar. New animals include the Dobermann in four variants, the German shepherd in four variants, the desert monitor, the mouflon, the round goby, and the catfish. New clothing includes dust goggles, the keffiyeh, the turban, the kameez, the shalwar, and the waterskin, plus desert variants of vests, bags, and jackets. New food and drink includes figs, halva, ayran, jallab, lassi, pakola, and canned sarma. A full Nasdara town and location list is unpublished, so this guide does not publish one from speculation.
Price, ownership, and what is still unknown
Bohemia Steam post on October 2 gave the Badlands price as approximately $24.99, with regional pricing applying. Coverage on October 9 listed $24.99, or 22.49 pounds, with a 10% launch discount at $22.49, or 20.24 pounds. That discount was launch-week, so do not assume it still applies on October 27: the safe statement is list price $24.99 and check the store page for the current price. The current Badlands store price on October 27 is itself a stated gap if it cannot be verified at publish time. Badlands requires the base game; it is not standalone.
