Walking the Sázava Valley: Monastery, Castles and the Silver Town of Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance opens with a burning village and a boy on horseback, and the country he rides through is real: the valley of the Sázava river, southeast of Prague, where a monastery founded in 1032, two castles in a single small town, a ruined hilltop fortress and a silver-mining village all stand within a few miles of each other. The game rebuilt them as they stood in 1403; the valley keeps them as time left them.

Trosky Castle, the Two Towers That Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Rebuilt in 1403

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 opens in the Trosky region, and its landmark is a castle built on two volcanic rocks: Baba and Panna. The real Trosky was raised around 1380-1390, passed from its indebted founder to the Bergow lords, survived Hussite sieges, fell to robber knights, and ended up folded into the Kost estate. The village below it, the sandstone rock country beside it, and Kost itself carry the rest of the story.
